Today's Opinions

  • The world will be watching Kindra

When contestants in the Miss USA pageant walks across the stage, Bullitt County will have a representative.

Kindra Clark, a Bullitt East graduate and resident of Mount Washington, will be representing Kentucky in quest of earning the title of Miss USA.

No matter where she places in the pageant, Clark is a winner. The 2009 Miss Bullitt County Fair queen has been busy attending various functions and representing her county and state very well.

  • Best efforts still can't get state budget approved

“Mr. Speaker, I would move you sir that ...we adjourn sine die, until the first Tuesday following the first Monday of the Year of Our Lord 2011, unless called into extraordinary session by the Governor of the Commonwealth.”

FRANKFORT - Sine die is Latin. It means ‘without a day.’ In session-speak, it means the end.

  • BBB Warns: Avoid Petal Pushers this Mother's Day

Loved ones who plan to send flowers for Mother’s Day should beware of “petal pushers.”

These unscrupulous florists place bogus listings in local phone directories.

When you call the local number listed, or given to you by the operator, you’re unknowingly forwarded to an out-of-town telemarketing company.

The telemarketer takes your order and credit card information, and then forwards your order to an area florist.

  • Cases of child abuse too much; HANDS could help

Child abuse is terrifying, sad, and senseless!

I believe no one wakes up in the morning and says “Today I am going to hurt my child.”

        Unfortunately, child abuse occurs anyway.

A definition for child abuse is an injury or pattern of injuries that is not an accident.

Child abuse includes non-accidental physical harm, abandonment, sexual abuse, and emotional abuse.

  • Budget still in works for state lawmakers

FRANKFORT - When the Kentucky House of Representatives adopted its two-year budget several weeks ago, my colleagues and I had three main priorities: Streamline government; protect education and our most vulnerable citizens; and kick-start our economy.

  • IRS Payment Options Include E-pay, Credit Card, Installment Agreements and Offers in Compromise

The Internal Revenue Service wants to remind taxpayers to pay all taxes due by the April 15 deadline to avoid interest and failure-to-pay penalties.

Filing and Paying on Time Saves Money

If you have a balance due and do not pay by April 15, you are subject to a failure-to-pay penalty. If you cannot complete your return and file it by April 15, you may request an extension of time to file. However, an extension of time to file is not an extension of time to pay.
