     FRANKFORT – As part of the 52 Weeks of Public Health campaign, the Kentucky Department for Public Health (DPH), within the Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS), is calling on homeowners to help control mosquitoes by eliminating standing water from containers that can collect rainwater where insects breed.

  • New theme, same mission

     We have changed our theme for our Derby activity.

    Over the last five years, the Bullitt County Foundation for Excellence in Public Education has sponsored a Derby Gala to raise money for our classrooms.

    In the first year, the foundation raised $3,028; last year, the group raised $17,856.

     What do you think of tax increases? Not inflationary increases but the kind of increase that is applied to fund pet projects, or worse, gross malpractice by leaders.

    Not good? OK, we agree.

    Government should be kept in check. That concept has no party. If you look real hard at what Frankfort is doing on the tax front, you will learn that in 2014 your government gave cities, counties, and most other taxing entities, a blank check. They took the ceiling off the insurance tax. The vote was almost unanimous.

  • Need some advice?

     I read with interest today about the Mayor and councils decision concerning the Shepherdsville Community Center. It saddens me that there cannot be any  better decisions made for the benefit of our community. 

    Perhaps at some point  everyone forgot that it is a “community” center and not just a building.  Sweat, hard work and private monies went into creating a place for everyone to utilize.
