Collective bargaining not...

SHEPHERDSVILLE- On Monday night's agenda, the Shepherdsville City Council will consider the second reading and possible adoption of an ordinance allowing for collective bargaining for police department employees. However, mayor Scott Ellis considers the matter to be a dead issue.

Before Shepherdsville City Park was the city park, it was home to the Watkins family.

James Watkins said from 1965-1998 his parents, Glenda and Lawrence Watkins, owned the land.

“We all just call that place home,” he said.

However, after a flood in 1997, the land was purchased by the city during a Federal Emergency Management Agency buyout to prevent future flooding and to create a city park, Watkins said.

In 1982, the family built a gazebo on the land and today it is still there, but is now known as the pavilion.

 I blame my interest in journalism on one thing, “All the President's Men.” Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman are the leads in the movie. They star as Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein respectively, The Washington Post reporting duo that uncovered the Watergate Scandal, and as a result, made journalism history.During my freshman year Introduction to Journalism class at Bullitt East High School, we watched the movie and I remember being fascinated by the work Woodward and Bernstein did.

Ashlie Gauthier describes herself as a girly-girl who loves to dress up and be onstage.

“I love to make the audience smile,” Gauthier said.

The 13-year-old Mount Washington Middle School student recently used her love of dressing up and being onstage at a Sunburst Beauty Pageant in Nashville, Tenn.

Being that this was one of Gauthier’s first pageants she was nervous, but excited.

“I’d been looking forward to it for a long time,” she said.

Willis, Troutman will be key...

 LOUISVILLE – Bullitt County will be well represented this weekend as the Kentucky-Indiana All-Star Classic plays two games in the annual summer series between the two basketball crazed states.

Bullitt East seniors Derek Willis and Rusty Troutman will both be looked at to play key roles in the boys’ games for head coach Allen Feldhaus Jr.’s team.

Kentucky and Indiana will clash on Friday night at Freedom Hall in Louisville. The girls’ game will start at 5:30 p.m. with the boys’ contest to follow at around 7:30 p.m.
