HEBRON ESTATES - Students at North Bullitt High School received a unique civics lesson Wednesday while sitting on a fancy bus.

The C-Span bus made a stop at North Bullitt and Jennifer Curran had an opportunity to make students a little more familiar with what the cable network provides.

Calling C-Span “not better...it’s just different,” Curran quizzed the students on what they knew about the cable network and what made it different from the commercial stations.

FORT KNOX - SSG Michael Montgomery, Ret., knows what a soldier faces both during and after combat.

With 17 years military experience, including three years active duty, Montgomery learned the battle doesn’t end for a soldier upon returning home.

The dangers of mental fatigue and post-traumatic stress are common and, in some ways, more difficult to treat than physical wounds. Montgomery and his wife, Tamika, lived through the struggle of post-traumatic stress and its effect on their relationship.

SHEPHERDSVILLE - Some Shepherdsville Elementary students took a confident step into school this year in their new shoes.

Zappos.com’s second annual Back to School Supply Drive featured two pairs of suitable school shoes for 25 Shepherdsville students, along with new backpacks filled with school supplies.

Stefanie Walls, a solutions supervisor with Zappos.com, said employees and customers funded all Supply Drive donations.

“Each customer received a 10 percent discount on a purchase if they brought in school supplies,” Walls said.

MOUNT WASHINGTON -- Anthony and Jennifer Mullins of Mount Washington are proud to announce that their son Chris has been selected, due to his academic performance, to participate in the National Youth Leadership Forum on National Security in Washington, D.C. this fall.

This accomplishment is afforded to less than 1 percent of all high school students in the nation.

SHEPHERDSVILLE - Wayne Hagan loves to go hunting.

But his hunting time has often suffered due to his work schedule.

However, after Friday, Aug. 7, Hagan has all the hunting time he needs.

After 40 years of employment with the Kroger Co., Hagan joins his wife, Kay, in retirement.

A party was thrown in Hagan’s honor on Friday at the Shepherdsville store, where he has been employed since the grocery opened seven years ago.

Bernheim’s delightful series of forays into and about the natural world is designed especially for Older, Wiser and Livelier Seniors (O.W.L.S.).  Every O.W.L.S. program rekindles wonder, cultivates community and provides ample opportunity to learn about natural diversity in our region.

SHEPHERDSVILLE - Children keep both bodies and minds active during the summer thanks to Bullitt County Adult and Community Education’s 21CCLC Summer Camp.

Hosted at Bullitt Lick Middle School, the Summer Camp features four weeks of fun and educational activities.

Coordinator Annette Ragg said each week includes a different theme, with the first week designated as Career Week.

Guests during Career Week included visits from the Bullitt County History Museum and both the Shepherdsville and Zoneton Fire Departments.

The Shepherdsville’s Wastewater Department has been selected to receive a Platinum Peak Performance Award.

The Peak Performance Awards program presented by the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) recognizes public wastewater treatment facilities for their outstanding compliance records in the 2008 calendar year.

NACWA was proud to recognize over 400 Peak Performance Award facilities during the Association’s 2009 Summer Conference and 39th Annual Meeting, held July 14-17, 2009 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
