SHEPHERDSVILLE — From free goodies to magic shows, KidsFest 2009 promises to be bigger and better than ever this year with more than 70 booths and displays planned for the annual event.

KidsFest is on Saturday, March 14, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Paroquet Springs Conference Centre.

Bullitt County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kristie Walls said there will be more outdoor events planned this year.

SHEPHERDSVILLE - Seven students are earning college credits while still attending their respective high schools.

In the future, they hope many more will take advantage of this unique opportunity between the Bullitt County Public School System and the Jefferson Community Technical College program.

In its first year, JCTC coordinator Donna Miller said it has been a very successful partnership. And there are plans to make it even more successful and more accessible in the future.

Young adults looking to learn more about the police profession have joined the Shepherdsville Police Explorers Post 133, a part of the Boy Scouts of America organization.

The teens 14 and older have worked with the Shepherdsville police on a variety of projects over the past year. From helping with all the local parades to helping to park cars at the Bullitt Blast, the youth have been busy.

CLERMONT – Happy 80th Birthday, Bernheim Forest!

1929 was a historic year.  It was the year Isaac W. Bernheim established Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest.     

Bernheim will be celebrating all year long and we hope you will join us.  We have new and exciting initiatives and events planned for you in this 80th anniversary year, and we want you to be an integral part of all we do.

The most exciting and action packed gigantic show of the year will be arriving at the Ky. Exposition Center on February 20-22 for three of the biggest days on the facility’s busy calendar.

The Carl Casper Custom & Louisville New Car Auto Show will be featuring more sensational cars and stars than ever before.

This combined mega super Auto Show will take place in the South Wing “A”, East Hall, North Wing, Coliseum, West Wing, West Hall, and Pavilion.  Nearly 750,000 square feet of eye candy, non-stop fun and excitement!

SHEPHERDSVILLE - The Shepherdsville City Hall gymnasium came in handy this week as a temporary shelter for victims of the recent winter storm.

The Bullitt/Spencer County American Red Cross hosted the makeshift shelter in cooperation with the City of Shepherdsville. The shelter officially opened Tuesday night at 11 p.m.

SHEPHERDSVILLE - Methamphetamine use and abuse is among the most widespread problems in today’s society. A key task for law enforcement officials is education and awareness of the dangers surrounding meth.

Kentucky State Police trooper Steve Pavey hopes to make young people aware of the growing problem in an attempt to keep them from horrible life situations. He presented a meth awareness program to students at Bullitt Lick Middle School and the Bullitt County Adult and Community Education’s JAG program.

HILLVIEW - The Hillview Police Department donates toys and gifts to area children with assistance from local elementary students.

This year's Operation Santa program provided food and gifts for over 400 families and children.

Hillview elementary schools always donate items for the collection. The schools include Brooks, Freedom, Maryville and Overdale Elementary.

Hillview Police and mayor Jim Eadens visit each school in person to collect the donated items.

SHEPHERDSVILLE - Once a staple of the military, USO tours provided much-needed entertainment to troops away from home during the holidays.

Shepherdsville resident Vina Leslie hopes to bring that Christmas spirit to today's soldiers. With help from many local businesses and organizations, including the American Legion Post 157, the "Wounded Warriors" stationed at Fort Knox were recipients of holiday cheer.

Leslie's efforts began last year when members of her Kentuckiana Red Bells group decided to help soldiers at the base celebrate the season.
