  •  BBB is warning tax payers - don't fall victim to tax scams! Remember — if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. BBB takes a look at the different tax scams:

    The scam: Phishing includes emails or websites that trick victims into providing personal information. If you get an email “from the IRS” asking for your personal information, delete it!

  •  Working together would be a great idea in terms of recreational activities in Bullitt County.

    1.    IRS Scam: Tax payers are receiving calls from scam artists who say they are with the IRS. They claim a mistake was made on their taxes and the IRS owes them $2000. The catch, in order to receive the money, the tax payer must provide bank account information.

  •  If you’re a fan of University of Louisville athletics you know it’s been an unbelievable year.  Heck, it’s been an unbelievable month and a half!

  •  Influenza activity is high across most of the United States according to CDC’s latest FluView report. CDC continues to recommend influenza vaccination for people who have not yet been vaccinated this season and antiviral treatment as early as possible for people who get sick and are at high risk of flu complications.   •  A suicidal person may not ask for help, but that doesn’t mean that help isn’t wanted. 

  •  FRANKFORT - As I write to you, we’ve just completed the first week of the 2013 General Assembly Session. 

  •   FRANKFORT  – With the holiday season behind us, the General Assembly returned to Frankfort last week to prepare to deal with several crucial issues facing our Commonwealth.

  •       Now is the time of year we resolve to make changes for the better. This year, you can resolve to be a positive influence in the life of a young person by volunteering with 4-H. 

  •  The Better Business Bureau investigates thousands of scams every year, and this past year launched two websites to help consumers figure out which offers are real and which ones are possibly frauds: 

    BBB Smart Investing (www.bbb.org/smartinvesting), developed in partnership with the FINRA Investor Education Foundation, informs consumers about investment fraud, Ponzi schemes and risky investments, and helps them assess their risk, check out brokers, and avoid getting taken. 

  •    The Super Bowl is right around the corner! Better Business Bureau is warning consumers to be on the lookout for counterfeit memorabilia and phony game tickets.

  •   With the holiday season behind us, the General Assembly returned to Frankfort this week to prepare to deal with several crucial issues facing our Commonwealth.

    The first task of the 2013 Legislative Session was to elect leadership for our respective caucuses, receive committee assignments and essentially get our footing as we get ready for the work ahead of us.  It’s also a time of transition as new members prepare for their first legislative session.

  •  The 2013 legislative session of the Kentucky General Assembly opened this week with the election of new leaders who will help us navigate many important issues in the weeks to come. 

    House Speaker Greg Stumbo, Majority Leader Rocky Adkins, Speaker Pro Tem Larry Clark and Majority Whip Tommy Thompson retained their posts. The House elected its first female member of leadership with Rep. Sannie Overly as Caucus Chair.  This team brings a broad spectrum of experience to our leadership team and I look forward to working with them over the next two years. 

  •  Hello and Happy New Year!  As we start the New Year, so starts a new session in Frankfort.

    The 2013 session of the Kentucky General Assembly is 30 days long and is known as the “short” session.  During the first week, both caucuses are traditionally busy choosing their respective leaders and making committee assignments.

  •  BBB is receiving reports of salespersons in the Elizabethtown area, going door-to-door, trying to get residents to sign contracts to replace their “damaged” windshields.

  •  Every school day, around 13,000 young souls enter the doors of our local schools.  

  •  With the fine work of our legislators Linda Belcher, Paul Hornback, Jeff Greer, David Floyd and Dwight Butler, Bullitt County has made some strides over the past few years in terms of state-funded projects.

    1.    Be a Smart Consumer in 2013! Do your research on businesses and charities by going to www.bbb.org. Keep your computer safe by installing anti-virus software. Get everything in writing. Do not just take someone’s word for it. Never wire money to someone you do not know. Last, protect yourself from scam artists by limiting the information you share on social media pages.

  •  BBB is encouraging consumers to be smarter, safer consumers in 2013. By following these 10 simple New Year’s resolutions, consumers will be prepared to combat scammers and protect themselves from fraud:

    1. Do your research. Whether it’s a business you want to hire or product you want to buy, take time to do your research. Check a company’s BBB Business Review at www.bbb.org. For product information, go to the Consumer Product Safety Commission

  •  Bullitt Fiscal Court members took a necessary, and long overdue, step when they approved  hiring Kriss Lowry and Associates to complete the comprehensive land-use plan.
