  • Eastside grabs ‘B’ division trophy
     BERNHEIM – Holding Hebron scoreless in the third quarter, the Eastside Eagles pulled away from a 25-18 halftime advantage to beat the Panthers 55-28 in the championship game of the 2016 ‘B’ Division of the Bullitt County Middle School Basketball Tournament. The contest capped the six-team post-season tournament for the area middle schools. The tournament this year was played at Bernheim Middle School.
  • Mount Washington Middle cheerleaders return to competition in winning style
     Mount Washington Middle School has not had a competition cheer team for last three years. This year they were able to find a cheer coach, and they put together a competition cheer team and a sideline cheer team in July. The competition cheer team has accomplished great success only having practiced for three short months only two days a week.  They competed at the St. Gabriel Cheer Competition on Oct. 22 and won 1st place for the Middle School Small Division and were the Overall Grand Champs. 
  • Meade County Archery Tournament
     At this tournament on Dec. 3, Bullitt Central won first place with a score of 3,382. Andrew Dean won first place and was the highest overall scoring male at 294. Noah Glass was second at 290 and Nic Maddox was fourth (287). For the girls, Britney McCarthy won first place at 290. Casie Metcalfe was second at 285 and Taylor Dalton fourth with 282. For the middle schools, Bernheim was second at 3,253. Bridgett Gaffney was second at 279, with Whitney Barnes third with 279 and Alexis Hodgkins was fifth with 277.
  • MASTERS of SELF-DEFENSE
        HILLVIEW - The kicking and high stepping coming from the Hillview Government Center wasn’t from the usual Bluegrass music.     The city hosted a “break-a-thon”competition featuring students from Corbin’s Karate Academy and Victory Martial Arts in Elizabethtown.     The event was a fundraiser benefitting Hillview’s Operation Santa program and Warm Blessings in Hardin County.
  • High flying Falcons race past Wildcats ‘A’ Division shoot-out
     SHEPHERDSVILLE -- The North Falcons went to the air early and often en route to a 36-20 victory in the A Division of the Greater Bullitt County Youth Football League on Sunday. By the end of the first eight-minute quarter, the Falcons held a commanding 22-0 lead over the Central Wildcats. Head coach Tracey Key’s team scored on just the second play of the game. On the first play, quarterback Andrew Hadley connected on a 75-yard bomb to Ricky Hill.
  • Big second half leads Old Mill to ‘B’ win over Jaguars
     SHEPHERDSVILLE -- For the first 15 minutes of Sunday’s B Division title game, the defenses ruled. And then within 20 seconds, two touchdowns were put on the board. But, at the end of the chilly day, it would be the Old Mill Bengals who took home the championship trophy with a 22-6 victory over Lebanon Junction. The teams had split in the regular season but it was the Bengals who would control the action in the rubber match.
  • Colts win exciting Little Bullitt trophy
     SHEPHERDSVILLE -- It was a remarkable way to start out Championship Sunday for the Greater Bullitt County Youth Football League. The smallest of the combatants provided the most excitement of the day. In the end, a fumble in overtime provided the Mount Washington Colts with an exciting 12-6 victory over the Pleasant Grove Dolphins in the Little Bullitts division. The game was a defensive struggle as neither team could get close to the opposing goal line. The Dolphins got on the scoreboard first with 6:10 left in the game.
  • Dolphins break halftime tie to win PW title
     SHEPHERDSVILLE -- With the game tied at halftime, the Pleasant Grove Dolphins would put two scores on the board to claim the Pee Wee championship. The Dolphins turned back the Old Mill Bengals 19-6. During the first half on the 70-yard field, the defense was king for both teams. With 3:18 in the second quarter, Old Mill’s Kaleb Serafin broke loose for a 53-yard touchdown run. But, on its next possession, Pleasant Grove tied the score at 6-6. The big run was a 13-yard play by Michael Wheatley on fourth and four.
  • Championship SUNDAY set for local teams
     SHEPHERDSVILLE – Once again this season The Pioneer News will run the results from the Greater Bullitt County Youth Football League in each Wednesday edition during the season. The statistics used each week are provided to the newspaper by the league and the individual teams. Questions about yardage, scoring and tackles should be directed to the league and those teams.
  • Lady Generals repeat ‘A’ title
     MOUNT WASHINGTON – With the score tied at 29-29 with just over four minutes remaining in the championship game of the Girls’ Bullitt County Middle School Basketball Tournament, it looked like the hottest rivalry in the county would go down to the wire. However, hitting some big free throws, the Mount Washington Lady Generals pulled away down the stretch and beat the Eastside Lady Eagles 39-30 in the ‘A’ Division final.
