MOUNT WASHINGTON - With just nine players available for the Cal Ripken District 10 Tournament that his league was hosting, Mount Washington Under-12 head coach Delbert Askins had little room for error.
SAINT MATTHEWS - On Saturday, the Under-11 Mount Washington All-Stars had secured a spot in this week’s East Kentucky State Tournament in Elizabethtown.
FERN CREEK - The Under-10 Mount Washington Baseball All-Stars got the good draw in the District 10 Tournament at Fern Creek last week and then took full advantage of that, sweeping to a pair of wins to claim the second straight title for the league at this age level.
FERN CREEK - Pulling a couple of rabbits out of their hats and making a few tight situations vanish into thin air, the U-10 Mount Washington Softball All-Stars would have made Houdini blush on Sunday with some marvelous escape moves to claim the title of the East Kentucky State Tournament at Fern Creek Park.
The 10-year-old All-Stars from Blue Lick played district action at Okolona. The team came away with a 1-2 record. After defeating Southwest Louisville 13-3 in the opener, the team lost to West Louisville 12-1. In the loser’s bracket game, Blue Lick was eliminated 11-1 by Germantown. Richard Wolfe was the manager and Ronnie Campbell was the assistant. Team members included Isaiah Brooks, Ronnie Campbell, Austin Dalton, Austin Geralds, Clayton Hill, Cameron Keehn, Tanner Lewis, Lukas Motley, Christopher Perkins, Nickolas Vowels, Patrick Wells and Richard Zane Wolfe.
The Under-9 Mount Washington All-Stars made a strong showing last week in the combined District 10/11 tournament at Des Pres Park in Louisville that was hosted by the Hikes Point Optimist.
