  • Bats go cold as BE suffers 2-1 setback

MT. WASHINGTON – For all the good things the Bullitt East Chargers did this season in rolling to 27 victories, an 11th consecutive district title and a high state ranking, the team had one major Achilles heel – hitting.

That bugaboo caught up with the red and gold on Monday as they were knocked out of the post-season with a 2-1 loss to Holy Cross in the first-round of the Sixth Region Tournament.

The game was played at Bullitt East marking the first time the Chargers had ever hosted a regional baseball contest.

  • One bad inning drops BE softball

LOUISVILLE – There is a big difference in teams between the first game of the season and the post-season, just ask the Bullitt East Lady Chargers.

Coach Ricky Hoffman’s team had defeated Butler 8-0 in the first game of this season back when it was still winter, March 13.

That all changed in difficult ways for Bullitt East on Monday as the red and gold suffered a 4-3 loss to the Bearettes in the first game of the Sixth Region Tournament.

  • Holy Cross gets jump on NB girls

LOUISVILLE – North Bullitt’s first visit to the Sixth Region Softball Tournament since 2010 ultimately showed that the program still has more work to do as the green and gold fell to Holy Cross 9-0 on Monday.

The game was played at Holy Cross, one of the area’s top teams, as the Lady Cougars were coming off a championship in the 21st District tournament. North Bullitt reached the Sixth Region Tournament as the runner-up in the 23rd District.

  • Cougars fall to Trojans in tournament opener

SHEPHERDSVILLE -- It wasn't the way Bullitt Central coach G.J. Moore and his players wanted the season to end.

  • Mercy cools East’s bats 1-0

FERN CREEK – There was plenty of pitching and not much offense on Wednesday in the championship game of the 24th District Softball Tournament.

Matching two of the top teams in the state, Bullitt East and Mercy once again locked horns in a titanic struggle and once again the outcome came down to the end before the Jaguars pulled out a 1-0 decision.

  • Quick starts lifts Southern past North Bullitt in final

SHEPHERDSVILLE – Trailing by four runs after the first inning, the North Bullitt Lady Eagles were not able to rebound on Wednesday in the championship game of the 23rd District Tournament against Southern High School.

In the end, the Lady Trojans tacked on a run in the fifth inning as they recorded a 5-0 victory to claim a second straight district title.

  • North repeats title with big win over Southern

SHEPHERDSVILLE -- The North Bullitt Eagles had a few goals at the beginning of the season.

One of which was to be the top seed in the district tournament and to repeat as 23rd District champs.

A third goal was to make a deep run into the Sixth Region tournament.

The first two goals have been accomplished. Now, it is on to the third.

The top-seeded Eagles blew through the Southern Trojans 14-1 to win its second consecutive district crown.

  • Slow start can’t keep East from 11th crown

FERN CREEK – A little burp in the first inning was quickly overcome on Wednesday as the Bullitt East Chargers rolled to an 11-2 victory over Fern Creek in the championship game of the 24th District Baseball Tournament, which the Tigers were hosting.

The win was the 11th consecutive district title for Bullitt East and head coach Jeff Bowles. As the veteran coach pointed out to his seniors after the game, they were in the first grade the last time the red and gold failed to win a district tournament.

  • Sixth Region diamond play starts Monday

SHEPHERDSVILLE -- For the first time ever, Bullitt County will host a pair of post-season baseball games on Monday when both Bullitt East and North Bullitt will be hosting first-round games in the Sixth Region Tournament.

This is the first year for baseball since Bullitt County schools joined the Sixth Region, that they have played opening round baseball games on the site of the district winners.

That format was in play last year for softball and in the past all three local schools hosted regional softball tournaments in the old Eighth Region.
