FAIRDALE - Lots of people have ‘coming out’ performances.

  • Barr turns the big dogs loose as BE slips past Indians 72-66

VALLEY STATION - There comes a time in every season when a basketball coach has to let his players just make plays.

Veteran Bullitt East head coach Troy Barr four himself in that situation on Saturday night in the second game of the Thornton’s Showdown at Valley High School. Madison Central, the state’s fourth-ranked team, had rallied from a ten-point deficit at the start of the fourth quarter to lead 63-62 with 2:49 to play.

  • King of the Bluegrass tops busy week for area basketball teams

SHEPHERDSVILLE - The six area high school basketball teams will all be within 30 miles of home this week competing in area holiday basketball tournaments.

  • Opponents take the challenge with sweep of Bullitt County Challenge

SHEPHERDSVILLE - The Bullitt County Challenge was apparently just that for the three local teams.

In the three-game event hosted by Bullitt Central High School on Saturday, each of the local teams left on the short end of the score.

In the past this event has been played in January, but because of some other commitments, the three game ‘showcase’ was moved to before the Christmas break. All three of the Bullitt County teams had played the night before.

  • NB sweeps first-ever meeting with Thomas Nelson

HEBRON ESTATES - Over time a rivalry could well develop between North Bullitt and the new high school in Nelson County...Thomas Nelson High School...in any number of sports, including basketball.

However, in year one for the new school, in which they have no seniors, it is tough to get a good read, at least in basketball, about the strength of the Generals' program.

  • Chargers survive tough environment to win

BUCKNER - There was no shortage of experience on the floor Tuesday as two of the most successful basketball programs in Kentucky over the past two seasons collided at Oldham County High School.

Both Bullitt East and Oldham County are two-time defending regional champions. A year ago, the Colonels reached the semi-finals of the state tournament equaling what the Chargers had done the year before.

  • Lady Cougars erase long weekend with a big win

SHEPHERDSVILLE - After a long weekend that extended the team's losing streak to three games, the Bullitt Central Lady Cougars got back in the winning column on Tuesday as they rolled past visiting Seneca 66-52.

The different came in the second quarter. Bullitt Central had a narrow 16-13 lead after the first quarter, but then went on an 18-4 run that broke the game open. The Lady Cougars pushed the lead to 29 points before Seneca made the final score more respectable.

  • Cougars hit FT to get past Whitefield

SHEPHERDSVILLE - In a season in which wins will not be falling out of the sky, the Bullitt Central Cougars did get victory number three last week when they defeated visiting Whitefield Academy 61-52.

In a game in which the Cougars converted only two three-pointers, the maroon and gray made up for that by hitting 17 of 21 at the foul line. That number included an eight of nine mark in the fourth quarter as Bullitt Central stretched a three point lead to as many as 12 points.

  • Brotherly East-North Mat Match

MOUNT WASHINGTON - When Bullitt East and North met last week in a wrestling match, it was a brotherly event.

When Adam Ritter became the Bullitt East coach for this season, it meant that he would be competing against older brother B.J. Ritter, who coaches the North Bullitt team.

The two squads had already scrimmaged each other and last Wednesday they competed in an official match that Bullitt East won 48-33.

  • Key to victory for North Bullitt? Give it to Key

SHEPHERDSVILLE - By his own admission, North Bullitt senior Aaron Key was having a bad game on Friday against arch-rival Bullitt Central.
