     MIDDLETOWN - Coaches will always say that any first-round battle is one in which your team must find a way to win and survive.

  • BC and BE advance in 6th Regional baseball and softball tournaments

     LOUISVILLE - It was hot on Monday for area softball and baseball teams.
     And two of the four Bullitt County representatives will still be playing as the tournaments move to the University of Louisville campus.
     In the Sixth Region softball, which played its opening round at Southern High School, Bullitt East advanced to play on Tuesday with a 15-0 victory over Presentation.
     The Lady Chargers will play at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Ulmer Stadium.

  • Dates and times set for 6th Region softball and baseball tournaments

     LOUISVILLE - The dates and times have been set for the Sixth Region softball and baseball tournaments, which begin on Memorial Day.
     In softball, the Bullitt Central Lady Cougars will open play at 9 a.m. on Monday against Pleasure Ridge Park.
     Immediately following that game will be the Bullitt East Lady Chargers against Presentation at 11 a.m.
     Both games will be played on Field 2 at Southern High School.
     The winners will advance to Ulmer Field on the University of Louisville campus on Tuesday.

  • East, Central romp in softball semis

     HEBRON ESTATES - The expected showdown in the final between the two top seeds, Bullitt East and Bullitt Central, was never really in doubt on Tuesday in the semi-finals of the 24th District Softball Tournament at North Bullitt.
     In the first semi-final, Bullitt East moved into it's third-straight district final with a 12-3 victory over Southern. It took even less time for Bullitt Central to join their rivals in the final as they rolled past North Bullitt 10-0 in five innings.

  • NB gets past Southern 3-2; BE rolls

     HEBRON ESTATES - Election Day might have had a light turnout at the polls, but it was all hands on deck for the two semi-final games of the 24th District Baseball Tournament at North Bullitt.
     The key game was the second one as second-seeded Southern squared off with third-seeded North Bullitt. While both teams had lost to Bullitt East during the regular season, Southern had the higher seed in this meeting due to a 12-7 win over the Eagles during the regular season.

  • Regional baseball, softball get an early start Monday

     LOUISVILLE - With high temperatures in the forecast for Monday, officials in Jefferson County reworked the schedules for Monday's Sixth and Seventh Region softball and baseball tournaments, meaning that games will start as early as 9 a.m. on Memorial Day.

  • Lady Chargers win perfect pitchers' duel 2-0

     HEBRON ESTATES - An anticipated pitchers' duel lived up to all the expectations and more on Wednesday as Bullitt East and Bullitt Central squared for the second straight year in the championship game of the 24th District Softball Tournament.
     In the end, it was Bullitt East senior Jamie Lutes who got the shut-out as the Lady Chargers scrapped out a 2-0 victory over their county rivals. Lutes gave up on three hits and Bullitt Central had only one runner reach third base in the game.

  • Make it nine straight baseball titles for East

     HEBRON ESTATES - It's hard to believe that a team that has a 32-6 record and has recent experience playing in the state tournament would be flying under the radar.
     But that could be the case for the Bullitt East Chargers.
     And that's exactly the way head coach Jeff Bowles likes it.
     Bullitt East defeated the host North Bullitt Eagles 10-2 on Wednesday to earn the school's ninth straight District 24 baseball title. Both teams will advance to the Sixth Region tournament, starting Monday at St. Xavier High School.
