  • Heat, Southern can’t bottle up...

OKOLONA-- The only thing that could slow up the North Bullitt Eagles Friday night was the weather.
With hot temperatures and high humidity, kickoff was delayed 20 minutes.
        Don’t worry.
Head coach Adam Billings’ Eagles were ready when the whistle blew as they dispatched the host Southern Trojans 55-7.
The Eagles would score on every possession and its only punt turned into a touchdown.

  • Cougars take a bite out of the...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – For the second time in as many weeks, the tortoise got the win on Friday as the Bullitt Central Cougars went on the road and beat Fairdale 21-6.
This was the second straight game in which the Cougars’ defense did not allow any points. The only score for Fairdale came just after Bullitt Central had gone up 21-0 midway through the third quarter when the Bulldogs returned the ensuing kick-off 83 yards for a touchdown.

SHELBYVILLE – For the second time in as many games, the Bullitt East Chargers rallied to take the lead late only to have an even later rally by the opposition decide the outcome of a close game.

  • Each area girls’ soccer team...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – After the first game of the season for each of the three area girls’ soccer programs, the record stood at a sterling 3-0.

That run didn’t exactly continue, but it was a good start for each of the teams.

At least for North Bullitt and Bullitt East, the first two weeks of the regular season is just a warm-up for Monday’s showdown in Mount Washington for the two teams that have been ranked second and third in the Sixth Region for the past four years.

  • Lady Cougars seeking to dethrone...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – After four straight seasons of finishing as the runner-up to North Bullitt in the 23rd District, the Bullitt Central volleyball program has its eye firmly on the prize of reversing that outcome in 2016.

This is an older group of Lady Cougars who are tired of finishing second in the district.

  • East’s Stallings signs to play...

MOUNT WASHINGTON – Having a friend in the right place paid dividends for Bullitt East baseball standout Clayton Stallings this summer as a well-placed word with the right coach got the second baseman an invite to a successful junior college program.

  • Rain falls on second week of...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – Once again this season The Pioneer News will run the results from the Greater Bullitt County Youth Football League in each Wednesday edition during the season.

The statistics used each week are provided to the newspaper by the league and the individual teams. Questions about yardage, scoring and tackles should be directed to the league and those teams.

  • New tracks will alter the fan...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – The great news is that the new tracks at the three Bullitt County High Schools are nearly complete.

In fact, the track at North Bullitt is finished and even rubberized and lined.

While that is really great news for the area track programs, it will cause a few headaches for area football fans as was obvious last Friday night at Bullitt East as the team was scrimmaging Fern Creek.
