     UPDATE (10/20): The North Bullitt Lady Eagles have won the 2017 6th Region Girls' Soccer Tournament.

    The Lady Eagles defeated Bullitt East 1-0 in the refional championship game at Mercy Academy.

  • Post-season seedings hinge on...

     SHEPHERDSVILLE – While South Oldham has already wrapped up the number one seed from Class 5-A, District 3, the other three spots are still up for grabs between Bullitt East, Bullitt Central and Oldham County.

    At this point, North Bullitt and Nelson County are out of play-off contention no matter the outcomes on Friday.

    The key game this week is now Oldham County visiting Bullitt East. At the same time, Bullitt Central will be playing host to Nelson County.

     LOUISVILLE – The game started under gray and damp conditions, but it was all sunny for the Bullitt East Chargers on Thursday as the red and gold ended over five years of frustration with a 3-1 girls’ soccer victory Mercy in the championship game of the 24th District Tournament.

  • Fern Creek shuts down BE

     MOUNT WASHINGTON – Bullitt East’s dreams of a 24th District soccer title came up short last week, but the Chargers played well enough to advance and battle anther day in this week’s Sixth Region Tournament at DeSales High School.

    Forced back a day because of wet conditions, the Chargers battled Fern Creek in the championship game on Thursday. That ended up being three days after the Chargers had defeated Whitefield Academy 4-0 in the opening game of the three-team event.

     SHEPHERDSVILLE – Once again this season The Pioneer News will run the results from the Greater Bullitt County Youth Football League in each Wednesday edition during the season.

    The statistics used each week are provided to the newspaper by the league and the individual teams. Questions about yardage, scoring and tackles should be directed to the league and those teams.

      HIGHVIEW -- You really can’t complain about your team winning the 23rd District girls’ soccer title for the sixth consecutive year.

    But, North Bullitt head coach Amber Mink is looking toward a bigger goal — the Sixth Region title this week.

    Her team kept its goal of winning both district tournament games with a shutoff by senior Delayna Holman.

    After defeating Southern 10-0 in the opener, North Bullitt held off a much improved Bullitt Central 6-0 in the championship game at Moore High School.

  • East beats North to claim...

     HEBRON ESTATES – Scoring on four of its first five possessions of the second half, the Bullitt East Chargers pulled away from arch-rival North Bullitt on Friday for a 40-19 victory in the 39th meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.

    Besides the obvious importance of beating your county rival, the win had multiple overtones for the Chargers.

  • Dragons breath fire on Cougars...

     PEEWEE VALLEY – For the second time in as many weeks, the South Oldham Dragons started fast and never looked back in defeating a play-off bound team from Bullitt County.

    On Friday, it was Bullitt Central that the Dragons jumped on top of 21-0 in the first quarter en route to a 42-7 victory.

    South Oldham wrapped up the number one seed for Class 5-A, District 3 with the win despite having a district game remaining with North Bullitt this Friday. It is the third straight district title for the Dragons.

  • North gets first shot at Mercy....

     SHEPHERDSVILLE – The Girls’ Sixth Region Soccer Tournament gets underway on Monday with all three Bullitt County teams represented for the fifth time in the past six seasons.

    The game everyone will focus on right out of the gate will be on Monday when North Bullitt collides with five-time defending Sixth Region champion Mercy. The two teams met in the semi-finals last season with the Jaguars pulling out a 1-0 victory.
