    SEPTEMBER 20:

  • BE’s homecoming clash is big;...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – One of the biggest football games in the area this weekend will be in Mount Washington as undefeated Central Hardin visits to take on Bullitt East and its three-game winning streak.

Adding to the festivities in Mount Washington is the fact that it will be homecoming for the Charger Nation.

  • Scouting for a successful deer...

FRANKFORT - Work, family and school commitments can leave little free time in a day, but hunters can help themselves by carving out some time to scout an area.

Kentucky’s archery season for deer is underway with the crossbow, youth-only firearm, muzzleloader and modern gun deer seasons still to come. So there’s time to find a place to hunt and scout it.

  • It was a perfect weather weekend...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – Once again this season, The Pioneer news will run the results from the Greater Bullitt County Youth Football League in each Wednesday edition during the season.

The statistics used each week are provided to the newspaper by the league and the individual teams. Questions about yardage, scoring and tackles should be directed to the league and those teams.

  • East and North beat the elements...

MOUNT WASHINGTON – What has been a tough first-part of the season for both teams, got a little better for the Bullitt East Chargers on Thursday as they turned back North Bullitt 2-0 in boys’ soccer action.

The contest was almost not played as heavy rains the previous night hit the area, but as Bullitt East head coach Mike Brangers noted, his field was so dry that it just sucked up the rain. There was also intermittent drizzle the afternoon of the game, but it stopped 10 minutes before the start of the game and did not return.

  • Lady Chargers sweep first round...

MOUNT WASHINGTON – Unfortunately, volleyball in Bullitt County is the last of a dying breed in one important aspect -- the sport is the last in which all three local programs still play each other home-and-away during the regular season.

The first rotation of games started last Tuesday when Bullitt East defeated North Bullitt 3-0. On Monday of this week, the Lady Chargers were at home again and defeated Bullitt Central 3-1.

On Thursday, North Bullitt and Bullitt Central will clash in an important 23rd District match in Shepherdsville.

  • CC under the lights? BE and BC...

ELIZABETHTOWN – Normally, major Saturday high school cross-country meets are held in the mornings. A few are contested in the afternoon. During the week, some others are held after school.

Rarely are cross-country meets held after dark.

  • Honoring the 1994 Team

At halftime of Friday’s game against Waggener, Bullitt East held a 20th Anniversary Reunion for the 1994 football team that reached the state championship game before falling to Danville.

At the start, Bullitt East principal Willie Foster, who played on that team, led the players, coaches and family members to the field.

A special presentation was made to the team’s coach, Mike Egan.

  • Lady Chargers pull away after...

MOUNT WASHINGTON – In the only regular season meeting this fall between two of the top programs in the Sixth Region, Bullitt East kept its slight edge over North Bullitt in girls’ soccer with a 4-0 victory on Monday.

While this was the only regular season meeting, it may not be the only meeting this season. In each of the past two seasons, the two rivals have ended up meeting in the Sixth Region semi-finals after North Bullitt won the 23rd District title and Bullitt East was the 24th District runner-up.

  • Leasor added another year after...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – Bullitt Central football coach Danny Leasor has ‘retired’ before...more than once in fact.

But this summer Leasor announced that this would be his final season at the helm of the Cougars. Of course, this is Leasor’s second stint at Bullitt Central, having coached at the school back in the 1980s before stepping down. He then was the head coach at Pleasure Ridge Park for a number of seasons before ‘retiring’ again.
