  • East beats North to claim...

HEBRON ESTATES – Scoring on four of its first five possessions of the second half, the Bullitt East Chargers pulled away from arch-rival North Bullitt on Friday for a 40-19 victory in the 39th meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.

Besides the obvious importance of beating your county rival, the win had multiple overtones for the Chargers.

  • Dragons breath fire on Cougars...

PEEWEE VALLEY – For the second time in as many weeks, the South Oldham Dragons started fast and never looked back in defeating a play-off bound team from Bullitt County.

On Friday, it was Bullitt Central that the Dragons jumped on top of 21-0 in the first quarter en route to a 42-7 victory.

South Oldham wrapped up the number one seed for Class 5-A, District 3 with the win despite having a district game remaining with North Bullitt this Friday. It is the third straight district title for the Dragons.

  • North gets first shot at Mercy....

SHEPHERDSVILLE – The Girls’ Sixth Region Soccer Tournament gets underway on Monday with all three Bullitt County teams represented for the fifth time in the past six seasons.

The game everyone will focus on right out of the gate will be on Monday when North Bullitt collides with five-time defending Sixth Region champion Mercy. The two teams met in the semi-finals last season with the Jaguars pulling out a 1-0 victory.

  • Bullitt Cup is once more on the...

HEBRON ESTATES – Once again, the Bullitt Cup will be in the balance on Friday when Bullitt East travels to North Bullitt for the 38th renewal of The Clash.

The two teams will have to put on quite a show to equal last season’s 44-43 Bullitt East win on their home field. The Chargers had just two wins heading into that game but put together their best effort of 2016 to beat a North Bullitt team that would go on to play in the Class 5-A, Region 2 championship game against South Oldham.

  • BC in big test at South Oldham

PEEWEE VALLEY – There is never a dull moment this fall with the Bullitt Central Cougars.

Coach Matt Kuehn’s team has a positive record at 5-2, but over the past four games, where the team has a 2-2 record, none of the games has been decided by more than six points, win or lose.

  • District volleyball play set to...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – Volleyball will move into the post-season next week when district play begins in both the 23rd and 24th Districts.

In fact, both districts are looking to get in and out of play as quickly as possible as each of the five-team districts will play three matches on Monday before playing the championship match on Tuesday.

  • Youth football down to two weeks...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – Once again this season The Pioneer News will run the results from the Greater Bullitt County Youth Football League in each Wednesday edition during the season.

The statistics used each week are provided to the newspaper by the league and the individual teams. Questions about yardage, scoring and tackles should be directed to the league and those teams.

  • Brown makes noise at first state...

BOWLING GREEN – There is always something to be said for making a big entrance.

Eastside Middle School seventh-grader Macie Brown did just that last week at the Leachman Buick, GMC, Cadillac Girls’ State Golf Tournament at the Bowling  Green Country Club when she finished in a tie for 12th in her first year of eligibility for the Kentucky High School Athletic Association tournament.

  • East reaches final in boys’ 24th

HEBRON ESTATES -- Playing at home suited Bullitt East just fine on Monday as the Chargers won its opening game in the 24th District Tournament with a 4-0 decision over Whitefield Academy.

Amazingly, the 4-0 outcome is the identical score from the game when the two teams met during the regular season.

With the win, Bullitt East advances to take on Fern Creek in the championship game on Wednesday at Bullitt East in a rematch of last year’s  district final, a match that Fern Creek won 3-1.
