  • Wilson signs with USI

MOUNT WASHINGTON – Perhaps the state’s fastest baseball player, Bullitt East senior Garrett Wilson, didn’t take long to decide that following the Charger pipeline to Southern Indiana University was in his best interests.

On Wednesday, Wilson capped the final day of the Fall Signing Period for NCAA Division I and II programs by putting his signature on a national letter-of-intent to play for head coach Tracy Archuleta and the Screaming Eagles.

  • BE softball players make early...

MOUNT WASHINGTON – A pair of Bullitt East softball standouts recently decided to end the recruiting runaround and committed to NCAA Division I programs long before the start of their senior seasons.

Lady Charger pitcher Taylor Roby, who won’t graduate until 2018 and can’t sign an NCAA letter-of-intent until the fall of 2017, has decided that her college destination will be the University of Louisville.

  • Maros joins USI softball

MOUNT WASHINGTON – Speed kills and Bullitt East senior Shelby Maros has a lot of speed.

That is what made her so special to Southern Indiana University softball coach Sue Kunkle.

Last Monday, Maros cemented the relationship, signing an NCAA Division II national-letter-of-intent to play for the Lady Screaming Eagles starting in the fall of 2016.

The decision didn’t seem that difficult to Maros.

  • Fall signing period was hectic...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – Five signings with NCAA Division I and II programs in the early signing period that ended last Wednesday.

That speaks loudly for Bullitt County athletics and the strong athletes that the county is now producing. I can never remember five Bullitt Countians making it all official in one early signing period. That’s great.

It was hectic, but hectic is good.

HEBRON ESTATES – Despite offers from a pair of Division I programs, North Bullitt senior Katie Downey took the offer from Bellarmine University, singing with the Lady Knights last week during the NCAA early signing period for basketball.

Downey had committed to Bellarmine back during the summer.

Over the past year, the high-scoring guard had a scholarship offer from Eastern Kentucky University as well as an offer from national power Louisville to be a walk-on.

  • 11 three-points lead to ‘A’ team...

BERNHEIM –It’s never easy to beat a good team three times.

It’s just about impossible beat a good team three times when during the third meeting the team connects on 11 three-pointers.

  • Late threes lift MW past...

BERNHEIM –Connecting on a trio of three-pointers over the final 90 seconds of the game, the Mount Washington Lady Generals’ seventh-grade team rallied to beat Eastside 38-35 in the Championship Game of the Girls’ Bullitt County Middle School Basketball Tournament on Thursday.

The win reversed two regular season losses by Mount Washington to their arch-rivals.

  • BE’s Duvall to miss junior...

MOUNT WASHINGTON – Bullitt East basketball standout Lindsey Duvall, who recently committed to the University of Kentucky, will miss her junior season this winter after having a tumor removed from just below her left knee.

Duvall had surgery on Thursday in Louisville and went home that day. The bone tumor was diagnosed as chondroblastoma, a very rare form of cancer.

  • Fern Creek pulls away late to...

FERN CREEK – North Bullitt’s turnaround, season-in-the-sun 2015 campaign came to an end on Friday as Fern Creek scored three times in the second half to beat the Eagles 28-7 in the second-round of the Class 5-A State Football Playoffs.

The loss ended North Bullitt’s season at 9-3, an incredible reversal from the 1-10 mark the program posted in 2014.

Against a very athletic Fern Creek team on Friday, the green and gold had opportunities early to seize momentum but an uneven offensive performance ultimately undid the Eagles.
