  • Chargers do it all in one big...

MOUNT WASHINGTON – Just do it all in one night.

    Homecoming? Check.

    Senior Night? Check.

National Guard Game of the Week? Check.

    Beating Elizabethtown? Check.

    Check Mate!

Bullitt East did all of that and even some more on Thursday as the Chargers played host to visiting Elizabethtown. There was a whole lot going on but when the evening was finally over, the Chargers had closed out the regular season with an 81-63 victory.

  • Teams are getting ready

SHEPHERDSVILLE – During the final week of the regular season, the thoughts of area basketball coaches is more on preparation than domination as all thoughts are focused on the upcoming post-season play when every team will start with a 0-0 record.

On Tuesday, the Bullitt Central Cougars played at home against Fairdale, a team that just a week earlier had taken Bullitt East to double overtime before losing. This time the Bulldogs just needed regulation time and beat the Cougars 68-49.

  • Both district hoops’ tournaments...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – Local basketball fans won’t have to travel very far this week as the 2017 high school basketball post-season starts with the 23rd District Tournament at North Bullitt and the 24th District event being contested at Bullitt East.

While each of the two local districts have one five-team event and one four-team event and the days for the boys’ and girls’ events are the same from Tuesday forward, there are some time differences so area fans need to check the brackets in this issue for the time schedules.

  • East sweeps North in rivalry

HEBRON ESTATES – Midway through the second quarter of Friday’s intra-county girls’ showdown between Bullitt East and North Bullitt, Lady Eagle head coach David Marion had seen enough.

Often a coach who stalks the sidelines and barks out plays and encouragement, on this night Marion had already seen enough. For the rest of the game he took a seat, only rarely getting up to signalin substitutes.

  • Chargers jump ahead early in win

HEBRON ESTATES – Holding arch-rival North Bullitt to just 11 points in the first half and 24 points through three quarters, the Bullitt East Chargers won for the second time in as many nights on Friday, securing a 63-47 win.

Often in basketball, offense and defense is in the eye of the beholder. Bullitt East fans could point to a strong defensive performance as the reason for the North Bullitt scoring woes. Conversely, North Bullitt fans were frustrated at the output from the offense.

  • 2017 Region Three Wrestling...

MOUNT WASHINGTON – Bullitt East’s steady rise to the top of the Region Three wrestling world continued on Saturday when coach Adam Ritter’s team climbed to the number two spot behind perennial state power Fern Creek.

  • Local swimmers in Region Four...

LOUISVILLE – Friday’s Region Four Swimming and Diving Championships at the University of Louisville’s Ralph Wright Natatorium was a chance for Bullitt County’s small, but competitive program to show off at the end of the season.

All three Bullitt County high schools practice and condition under one coach, Curtis Fuchs, but in meets the teams break down and compete under the banner of their own school.

  • Luttrell’s basket at :03 lifts...

HEBRON ESTATES – A short jumper in the lane from junior Peyton Luttrell as the clock ticked to :03 helped overcome a few North Bullitt miscues moments earlier and gave the Eagles a 45-43 win over visiting Elizabethtown on Tuesday.

After eight straight losses, North Bullitt head coach Korey Craddock will take a win anyway he can get it.

“It’s always good to get a win on Senior Night,” the coach said a few moments after the game.

  • Big second quarter powers Lady...

HEBRON ESTATES – A 25-5 surge in the second quarter was more than enough for the North Bullitt Lady Eagles on Tuesday as the green and gold rolled past visiting Marion County 69-40 on Senior Night.

The team has just one senior, Lauren Deel, and she led all scorers in the game with 18 points.

  • East wins double OT thriller...

MOUNT WASHINGTON – Rallying from a 53-41 deficit after three quarters, the Bullitt East Chargers pulled victory from the jaws of defeat on Thursday as the red and gold defeated visiting Fairdale 91-88 in a double overtime marathon.

Bullitt East despite the fact that the team is going through another serious bout of injuries and illness. Against Fairdale, seniors Konnor Polson (mono), Derrick Donigan (hamstring) and Grant Skaggs (sprained ankle) either didn’t even dress for the contest or were very limited in their participation in the game.
