  • Taylor plays second day at state...

BOWLING GREEN – Bullitt East sophomore Zach Taylor advanced to play on Day Two of the Boys’ Kentucky State Golf Tournament on Saturday, finishing up with one of the best finishes ever for a local player.

Taylor played through the rain on Friday, finishing before play was suspended later in the afternoon with some players barely halfway through the round. After play resumed on Saturday morning, Taylor’s 78 was good enough to get him into the second round as one of the top-20 scores for players not on one of the top dozen teams.

  • Lady Eagles cruise to win; BC...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – Finishing play before the storms hit on Monday night, the North Bullitt girls and the Bullitt Central boys both started post-season play in soccer with wins.

The result was not so good for the Bullitt East boys’ soccer team as their season came to an end with a 5-0 loss to Fern Creek at home.

The top two teams in each of this week’s district tournaments will advance to Sixth Region play starting on Monday.

  • [Bullitt] Cup runneth over with...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – What could have been ‘the mistake’, turned out to be ‘the redemption’ for Bullitt Central senior running back Trevor Carnell on Friday in the 26th renewal of The War.

It was a reversal of fortunes in a classic contest that was filled with emotional twists and turns. The final ‘high’ belonged to the Cougars when Bullitt East’s extra point attempt in overtime sailed wide left, giving Bullitt Central a 21-20 victory.

  • Numbers game continues to haunt...

SHELBYVILLE – For the second week in a row, the North Bullitt Eagles jumped out of the gate with strong play, but the team’s lack of numbers and depth came to the forefront once again on Friday as they faltered late in a 34-20 loss to district rival Shelby County.

HEBRON ESTATES – Light? Who needs light for a high school soccer match?

North Bullitt and Bullitt Central didn’t appear to need any sunlight to play soccer on Thursday. In a classic high school soccer match that went to overtime and beyond, the Eagles pulled out a 4-3 victory in the only meeting between the two rivals during the regular season.

A year ago, the two teams played a 4-3 thriller at Bullitt Central, but that game ended with a late goal in regulation.

  • STATE BOUND! BE boys earn spot...

ELIZABETHTOWN – ‘Just another golf tournament’.

That is what Bullitt East boys’ golf coach Kyle Downs was preaching on Tuesday morning before his team started play in the Fifth Region Tournament at the Elizabethtown Country Club.

Of course, it wasn’t really just another golf tournament. It was just the mindset that the veteran coach was trying to instill. It worked.

  • No time for a let down by Central

SHEPHERDSVILLE – After three ‘big’ games in three weeks, two of them decided in overtime, the Bullitt Central Cougars will need to get up for another ‘big’ game this week when the team travels to Shelbyville for a Class 5-A, District 4 showdown with Shelby County.

Bullitt Central and Shelby County are both undefeated in district play with the Cougars at 2-0 and the Rockets at 1-0 after beating North Bullitt 34-20 last Friday.

For the first time since 1979, the Cougars can win a district title with a victory on Friday.

  • Volleyball post-season gets...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – There is still an intra-county match on Thursday of this week when Bullitt East heads to North Bullitt for the final match of the regular season, but all three area teams are already looking ahead to district play which begins on Monday.

In fact, the post-season will only last two days despite both the 23rd and 24th Districts having five teams. There will be three matches in both tournaments on Monday with championship action slated for Tuesday night.

  • Still a lot on the line in...

MOUNT WASHINGTON – There is no Bullitt Cup on the line Friday in the annual renewal of The Clash, but Bullitt East and North Bullitt still have a lot to play for in the 35th meeting between the two programs on the gridiron.

As has been the case for the past decade, this will be a district game for both teams in Class 5-A. North Bullitt stands at 0-2 in the district heading into the final district game for the green and gold while Bullitt East is 0-1 in the district following last week’s overtime loss to Bullitt Central.
