  • Sharpe, Breeden almost pull off...

LOUISVILLE – The Kentucky All-Stars haven’t had much luck beating their counterparts from Indiana recently, but with the help of Tyler Sharpe and Wayne Breeden, the 2016 squad made a strong run at their bigger counterparts on Sunday at Bellarmine University’s Knights Hall.

  • East’s Maros, Salyer in All-...

MOUNT WASHINGTON – A pair of Bullitt East softball standouts will participate this weekend in the Kentucky Prep Softball East/West All-Star Weekend at Georgetown College.

Lady Charger seniors Shelby Maros, a centerfielder, and Emily Salyer, a second baseman, will be members of the West Senior All-Stars and will take part in two games on Saturday and one on Sunday. Maros has already signed to play at Southern Indiana University.

  • Patience pays off as BE beats...

LEXINGTON – Patience. Don’t leave home without it.

Bullitt East coach Jeff Bowles has been through the baseball wars and knows one thing for sure -- patience is a virtue when it comes to big games.

The coach stood by that mantra on Saturday, sticking with pitcher Troy O’Brien despite the senior giving up five runs in the first two innings. O’Brien would end up pitching for six innings, not giving up another run, giving his offense a chance to rally.

  • BE squares off with Camels in...

MOUNT WASHINGTON – Most high school sports teams have their banquets after the season is completed.

Not the Bullitt East Chargers. Not this season.

Because of the team’s deep run in the post-season, coach Jeff Bowles’ team had its earlier scheduled banquet on Monday of this week. Of course, there was a lot to celebrate as Bullitt East is still alive heading into the final week of the season, playing in the state semi-finals on Friday.

  • Bullitt East rallies to win...

LEXINGTON – Exploding for four runs in the fifth inning and then adding two more in the sixth, the Bullitt East Chargers rallied from an early hole to beat the Oldham County Colonels 6-3 on Friday in the opening round of the Rawling’s/Kentucky State Baseball Tournament at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.
The win advanced the Chargers to Saturday’s quarter-finals where they were set to take on Scott County, a 1-0 winner in eight innings over Caldwell County later on Friday.

  • BE’s Sharpe in Kentucky-Indiana...

LOUISVILLE – Bullitt East senior Tyler Sharpe will go where so many Charger standouts have gone before as he will play this week with the Kentucky All-Stars in the annual series against the Indiana All-Stars.

It was just three years ago that the Bullitt East duo of Derek Willis and Rusty Troutman played for the Kentucky squad. More than a dozen Bullitt East players have been members of the Kentucky All-Stars on either the boys’ or girls’ side.

  • Junior All-Star games set for...

LOUISVILLE – North Bullitt girls’ basketball coach David Marion will have an embarrassment of riches on Saturday when he helps coach the Fifth and Sixth Region All-Stars in the annual East-West Junior All-Star game at Bellarmine University’s Knights’ Hall.

  • Kuehn takes over Bullitt Central...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – With just two days remaining in the school year last week, Bullitt Central named Matt Kuehn as its new football coach.

Kuehn met with the players later that afternoon.

The naming of Kuehn was not a total shock as he had conducted spring drills while on an interim basis after former head coach Tye Lawson stepped down after just one season, leading the Cougars to a 6-5 mark. Lawson is now the athletic director and football coach at Eminence High School.

  • Oldham Co. first hurdle for...

MOUNT WASHINGTON – Bullitt East’s opening foe in the Rawlings/Kentucky State Baseball Tournament will be a familiar one as the Chargers will take on Oldham County in Friday’s opening round game at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington.

The Chargers and Colonels met back on April 15 in Buckner with Bullitt East pulling out a 10-6 victory.

Friday’s game will be played at 1:30 p.m.

  • North saves its best for last

LOUISVILLE -- It wasn’t a win and nobody in the North Bullitt softball camp was claiming it to be, but there were some smiles and giddiness after the Lady Eagles battled to the end before dropping a 2-0 decision to Fern Creek in the semi-finals of the Sixth Region Tournament at Ulmer Stadium on the University of Louisville campus.
