  • Blue Lick Spring Sign-ups

     The Blue Lick Optimist League will again hold baseball and softball sign-ups for the coming year.

    On-line signups are now open at https://bluelick.siplay.com/login

    Youngsters’ opportunities to play include from wee-ball to T-Ball to baseball and softball.

    Youngsters from southern Jefferson County and all of Bullitt County have participated in the Blue Lick program, which has featured several teams who have reached national competition.

  • Chargers help Kentucky keep the...

     ELIZABETHTOWN -- On the Saturday before playing in the Boys’ Louisville Invitational Tournament, the Bullitt East Chargers traveled to Central Hardin High School to participate in the Fifth Annual Kentucky-Indiana Hall of Fame Challenge Cup.

    The event, which was held at Freedom Hall in 2014 and the Frankfort Civic Center in 2016, involves five games with teams from Kentucky paired against their rivals from Indiana. The state that wins the majority of the games claims the Challenge Cup which then resides in that state’s High School Basketball Hall of Fame.

  • ‘Mercy Week’ for East

     MOUNT WASHINGTON -- It is the annual ‘Mercy Week’ for the Bullitt East Lady Chargers as they will play the Jaguars on Tuesday before returning to the school on Friday and Saturday to participate once again in the Raatz Fence/O’Shea’s Classic.

    This is the sixth straight season that Bullitt East has taken on their district rivals and played in the area’s top ‘showcase’ event in the same week.

  • Down 18, BE rallies late to beat...

     VALLEY STATION – Trailing 47-29 two minutes into the second half in the final opening round game of the Republic Bank Boys’ Louisville Invitational Tournament, the Bullitt East Chargers rallied on Tuesday to beat Pleasure Ridge Park 66-64.

    The win moved the Chargers into the quarter-finals on Wednesday where they were set to play Fern Creek, the top-ranked team in Kentucky this season.

  • Frustrating late call knocks out...

     VALLEY STATION – Putting forth a superlative effort against the state’s top-ranked team, Bullitt East had a shot at the upset of Fern Creek on Wednesday in the quarter-finals of the Republic Bank Boys’ Louisville Invitational Tournament before a phantom walking call with 1.8 seconds remaining in the game kept the Chargers from getting a chance at forcing an overtime in a 52-50 contest.

    In a game that had 11 lead changes and seven ties and in which neither team ever led by more than five points, the finish was anti-climatic for both teams.

  • The year of the twin in hoops

      SHEPHERSVILLE – Nobody loves the fact that basketball players have numbers on their uniforms more than me.

    While that goes for every season, it is doubly a good thing this season, the winter of the twins.

    There are no fewer than four pairs of twins in Bullitt County basketball this season and three sets of twins are playing key roles for their teams.

  • Big third quarter lifts North...

     SHEPHERDSVILLE – A two-point lead for North Bullitt at halftime expanded to double-digits early in the second half and the Eagles went onto beat arch-rival Bullitt Central 62-51 on Friday in the first of the two meetings between the teams this winter.

    North Bullitt opened the third quarter with an 11-3 surge that moved to 15-5 late in the third frame. The Eagles were up 42-31 entering the fourth quarter and Bullitt Central could get no closer than six points (44-38) the rest of the way.

  • Lady Eagles have no trouble with...

      SHEPHERDSVILLE – There were no surprises on Friday as the North Bullitt Lady Eagles rolled to a 63-21 victory over Bullitt Central in a contest that was as lopsided as the final score would indicate.

    North Bullitt rolled big despite the fact that senior guard Hailey Free, who has signed with Pikeville, missed the game after suffering a sprained ankle two nights earlier in a win over Fern Creek. Lady Eagle head coach David Marion was expecting Free to take the court again over the weekend in a game against South Laurel.

  • Mixed results for BE teams in...

     MOUNT WASHINGTON -- The two Bukllitt East basketball programs spent the week between Christmas and New Years in Florida with each team playing three games, but in different locations.

    Chargers Win Two

    Playing in Panama City Beach in Florida in the Marlin Christmas Classic, the Chargers split a pair of close games before romping to an easy win over the host school in the final contest.

    First, the Chargers picked up a win as they turned back East Hamilton, a team from Ooltewah, Tennessee by a 71-67 count.

  • Central comes up short to Meade...

     SHEPHERDSVILLE -- Following a long but ride after the first day back in classes after the holidays, the Bullitt Central Cougars put up a good fight, but came up just short, falling to Meade County 62-57.

    This one was close throughout as neither team had more than a five point edge at the end of any quarter.

    Meade County was up 31-29 at halftime and then outscored the Cougars 18-15 in the third quarter.
