  • BC grabs key district win over...

    SHEPHERDSVILLE -- Forget that the Moore Mustangs came into Bullitt Central's gym with only two wins this season.

  • North could be looking at two...

     SHEPHERDSVILLE – If the weather holds this week, and I know that is a huge ‘IF’ the way cold and snow have affected the area over the past month, but if the weather holds, this could be one of the biggest basketball weeks ever for the North Bullitt Eagles.

         By extension, if the Eagles have a big week this week, it could set the stage for a monumental occurrence for Bullitt County basketball as a whole.

         But first, let us stick to this week and North Bullitt.

  • East gets first-ever district...

    LOUISVILLE – For the first time ever, the Bullitt East Lady Chargers beat Mercy in a 24th District game on Wednesday as they jumped on top early and then rolled to an impressive 63-38 victory.

         The game has been moved back one night before of bad weather the previous day. As it turned out, Mercy had classes on game day, but Bullitt East did not. Still, the Lady Chargers jumped out to a 23-8 lead after one quarter and never looked back, outscoring the 2010 State Champions in each quarter.

  • BC girls secure strong district...

     SHEPHERDSVILLE -- For Bullitt Central basketball coach Kyle Roach, it was a 21-point district victory that he was pleased to secure.

  • Eastside repeats as state champs...

     RICHMOND - For the second consecutive year, the Eastside Middle cheerleading squad came back to Bullitt County in possession of the KAPOS Kentucky State Cheerleading championship trophy.

    According to cheer coach Carrie DeBold, in order to compete at the state competition at Eastern Kentucky University, the squad had to win its regional contest.

    For Eastside, both the Medium (16 members) and the Super Large (24 members) squads won their regional events and qualified for the state.

    The Super Large squad placed sixth in the state.

  • Catcher Haley Dukes signs to...

     SHEPHERDSVILLE – Never underestimate the importance of a friend when it comes to making a college decision.

    That is exactly what Bullitt Central senior softball player Haley Dukes did recently when she decided to play softball the next two seasons at John A. Logan, a junior college in Carterville, Ill.

    Last week, Dukes made it all official in a ceremony at Bullitt Central that included her family, coaches and teammates.

  • Pitcher Hailey Szpila signs to...

     SHEPHERDSVILLE – Before all is said and done at the end of the high school softball season, Bullitt Central senior Hailey Szpila may have played more games than any other player in program history.

    Even with all of that, the senior is already looking ahead to college as she has decided to continue her career at Campbellsville University. Szpila actually made her decision five months ago, but she didn’t sign all the paperwork until holding a ceremony at Bullitt Central recently.

     The severe winter weather conditions and school closings continue to wreak havoc on the local high school basketball schedules.

  • Winter weather continues to get...

     SHEPHERDSVILLE – Snow and cold keep getting in the way of the 2013-2014 high school basketball season.

    While the Bullitt East Chargers did get to play in the Louisville Invitational Tournament on Friday and the Bullitt Central Lady Cougars made it to Seneca, those were the only game that local teams got to play on that day.

  • After LIT, Sixth Region is back...

     SHEPHERDSVILLE – The boys’ high school basketball season is now in the homestretch after the Louisville Invitational Tournament finished up on Saturday with Pleasure Ridge Park defeating Ballard in overtime to claim the title.

    At the start of the season, PRP was the obvious top pick to claim a second straight Sixth Region title. In the pre-season the coaches picked Doss as the number two team in the region with a number of teams in that next pack of squads, including Bullitt East.
