     MOUNT WASHINGTON – The holiday basketball season was very, very good to the Bullitt East Chargers and the young team capped a strong run by winning the Lloyd Memorial Invitational between the two holidays.

     SHEPHERDSVILLE – Coming off a disappointing 1-2 record in their only holiday tournament of the season, Bullitt Central Lady Cougars picked up a win on Monday when they traveled to Campbellsville and knocked out the host team 59-28.

     The goal is to once again bring  home a national cheerleading title.

    En route to that competition in February in Orlando, the Bullitt East small cheer squad won its regional competition and then finished fourth in the state KHSAA cheerleading competition recently in Lexington.

    Coach Nate Fulghum said the core group of girls are well-rounded in all areas of the routine and that allows the squad to have a high degree of difficulty.

     As coaches are often fond of saying - ‘it was a good year, but it was not a great year.’

    It wasn’t until December that there was a KHSAA State Championship when Bullitt Central brought home the Co-Ed Cheerleading title.

    That makes five straight ‘years’ in which Bullitt County athletes have brought home a state title.

    There were a few runner-up finishes at the State Track and Field championships including two by junior Meghan Roby.

    MOUNT WASHINGTON Ð ItÕs going to be a wide-open season amongst the top girlsÕ teams in the Jefferson County area this season and that was certainly on display in the Vision First/Schmid Funeral Home Bullitt East Classic the weekend before Christmas.

    The championship game on Monday went down to the wire before BallardÕs Brandy Ray dribbled nearly the length of the floor in the final :05.5 and then hit a short jumper from the free throw line as the Lady Bruins beat Bullitt East 52-50.

    SHEPHERDSVILLE-- In the final tune-up for both teams before each entered holiday tournament play, North Bullitt traveled to Dixie Highway for a doubleheader with Sixth Region rival Holy Cross and the green and gold came home with a split of the two games.
    The North Bullitt Lady Eagles remained undefeated on the Friday before Christmas with a 70-59 decision over the Lady Cougars.

    MOUNT WASHINGTON Ð The Bullitt East Chargers have already proven that they can handle success this season, but they showed veteran head coach Bob Blackburn that they can also handle some adversity in the first of two holiday tournaments the squad will take part in over a ten-day period.

    SHEPHERDSVILLE Ð Forced to play two games in one day after driving to Bowling Green for the Warren East Christmas Tournament proved to be just a little too much for the Bullitt Central Cougars on the weekend prior to Christmas.
    Still, it was a successful trip as the team bounced back two days later to claim third place in the eight-team event with a win over South Warren.
