  • THE WAR: District, Bullitt Cup...

MOUNT WASHINGTON – No surprises. That is what Bullitt Central head coach Danny Leasor and Bullitt East mentor Darrell Vincent were both saying on Monday as they talked about Friday’s clash in Mount Washington between the two schools in the annual renewal of The War.

Both coaches know exactly what the other will try to do. That doesn’t mean it won’t work or that a few wrinkles won’t catch the other off guard.

Even fans know what to expect in Friday’s game.

  • Just one week remains in regular...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – Once again this season, The Pioneer News will run the results from The Great Bullitt County Youth Football League in each Wednesday edition during the season.

The statistics used each week are provided by the league and the individual teams. Questions about yardage, scoring and tackles should be directed to the league and those teams.

MOUNT WASHINGTON – For the second time in three weeks, the Bullitt East Lady Chargers swept through their rivals from Bullitt Central in straight games, winning 25-9, 25-12, 25-15 on Monday night.

It was a powerful performance for the Lady Chargers as they played their power game well, getting the ball down behind the hitting of senior Shelby Graham and junior Jennifer Cischke.

  • NB scores late to beat BC 5-4,...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – Scoring three unanswered goals in the second half, the last coming with less than two minutes to play, the North Bullitt Eagles slipped past Bullitt Central on Wednesday by a 5-4 score.

This contest highlighted two of the great turnaround seasons in local history. A year ago, the two teams did not beat anyone other than North Bullitt beating Bullitt Central twice. The second coming in the feed-in game of the 23rd District Tournament, a contest the green and gold won 2-0 before falling to Southern a day later.

  • BE CC squads in major meets

SHEPHERDSVILLE – When the Bullitt East Lady Charger cross-country team competes in small ‘neighborhood’ races during the week, the results have been dominating.

Already the season, the team has run in a meet where they posted a ‘perfect’ score of 15. Even in the medium sized Bernie Keene Invitational at Nelson County, the red and gold had five of the top six finishers.

So, head coach Lenny Raley has loaded up on the big, Saturday meets with top-flight competition.

  • East's Pruitt hits the mark...

FAIRDALE – Firing the best 18-hole score of her career, Bullitt East senior Olivia Pruitt qualified for this week’s Girls’ Kentucky State Golf Tournament at the Bowling Green Country Club.

Playing in the Third Region Tournament at the South Park Country Club, on Tuesday, Pruitt finished with an 88, good enough for seventh in the field of over 60 players.

“I was looking for an 88,” Pruitt said after getting her medal for a top-eight finish. “At the beginning, I was thinking about getting to state.”

  • Carnell's kick return...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – Almost ten minutes into the 38th renewal of The Game, the Bullitt Central Cougars were down 14-0 and didn’t appear to be going anywhere fast.

That all changed in about ten seconds.

That is about as long as it took for Bullitt Central junior sensation Trevor Carnell to return a kick-off 85 yards for a touchdown.

  • Offense to defense; What a...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – I could have predicted a lot of stuff about Friday’s renewal of The Game.

One thing I wouldn’t have predicted was 81 points being scored. Not after last season when the two teams pretty much stood in the middle of the field and slugged it out before Bullitt Central won 7-6 at North Bullitt.

  • Major changes in place for...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – Fans attending Friday’s Bullitt Central-North Bullitt football game, often times the biggest attended event of the year in the county, will have to use new temporary entrances to Bullitt Central’s George Valentine Field.

Because of construction at the school, 71 parking spots nearest the old tennis courts have been fenced off and will not be available for the rest of this football season. In addition, the two normal entrance gates will not be available on Friday.
