  • North Bullitt starts fast but...

        LOUISVILLE - The magical late-season run of the North Bullitt Eagles came to a close on Tuesday afternoon.

        In Jim Patterson Stadium on the University of Louisville campus, the Eagles fell 9-4 to the Butler Bears in the semifinals of the Sixth Region baseball tournament.

        The loss came 24 hours after North Bullitt pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the season by defeating Pleasure Ridge Park, the state’s second-ranked team, in the regional opener.

  • Chargers easily defeat Central...

        LOUISVILLE - Some baseball victories are spectacular and others more mundane.

        But in the post-season, any victory is to be cherished no matter the intensity level. It is win and move on.

        That was the case Monday night in the final opening round game of the Sixth Region Baseball Tournament at St. Xavier. Bullitt East was supposed to mow down a Central team that had won just six of 28 contests to this point in the season.

    LOUISVILLE - Seniors Jenna Simms and Erin Manns never expected to be standing in Ulmer Stadium playing for the right to advance to the state softball tournament.

    After struggling through a trio of sub-par seasons, Bullitt East came within two innings of making one of the most improbable tournament runs in the state of Kentucky.

    Despite the 5-4 loss on Thursday to Pleasure Ridge Park, first-year coach Ricky Hoffman was full of smiles.

  • Perfect Storm: Eagles eliminate...

        LOUISVILLE - It was the perfect storm for the North Bullitt Eagles on Monday as they upset the state’s second-ranked PRP Panthers to open the Sixth Region baseball tournament.

        Behind the solid pitching of Cody Montgomery, timely hitting and a tight defense, the Eagles upset the Panthers 3-2 to advance to the semifinals on Tuesday against the Butler Bears.

  • Long ball turns post-season into...

        OKOLONA - A pair of home runs accounted for all seven of the runs that Pleasure Ridge Park would need on Monday in an opening round game of the Sixth Region Softball Tournament against North Bullitt.

        The Lady Panthers got a grand slam in the bottom of the first inning from Sara Paragon and then a three-run blast from Morgan Hart in the fourth inning en route to a 7-4 victory against the runners-up of the 24th District Tournament.

        SALEM - The Ken-Ten (Kentucky-Tennessee) Late Model Series is set to make its inaugural visit to Salem Speedway on Saturday night, June 19th, for the Touchstone Energy Hoosier Hills 100.

     

        With an expected entry list spiced with wily veterans, young chargers and former Salem winners the 17th edition of the 100-lap race is shaping up as an interesting combination of race teams and drivers.

        LEXINGTON - The top Bullitt East doubles team of Matt Phipps and Carlos del Viejo played well, but were eliminated in the first round of the 2010 Kentucky State Tennis Tournament on Thursday in a three set marathon at the University of Kentucky.

  • Offense arrives late as BE rolls...

        OKOLONA - With just one hit and only two base runners through the first five innings of Monday’s Sixth Region Tournament opener, the Bullitt East Lady Chargers were struggling to figure out Holy Cross pitcher Angela Moseley.

        Fortunately, Bullitt East pitcher Jamie Lutes was just as hard for the Lady Cougars to figure out.

  • Scrimmage at East shows All-Star...

        MOUNT WASHINGTON - The first scrimmage of the week for the Girls’ Kentucky All-Stars showed that head coach Tommy Adams has a lot of work to do the rest of this week to prepare his team for the showdowns with the Indiana All-Stars on Friday and Saturday.

        Battling a team of Junior All-Stars from the western part of the state at Bullitt East on Monday, the Kentucky All-Stars came out on the short end of an 81-78 score.

  • Kentucky All-Stars to scrimmage...

        MOUNT WASHINGTON - The 2010 Girls’ Kentucky All-Stars will scrimmage for the first time on Monday when they visit Bullitt East High School to take on a team of Junior All-Stars.

        The West Kentucky Junior All-Stars will be coached by Bullitt East’s Chris Stallings who is serving as the assistant coach for the Girls’ Kentucky All-Stars this summer.
