  • Whitlow becomes Eagles' new...

HEBRON ESTATES – Coming off one of the best seasons in the program’s history, a season that included the championship of the 23rd District Tournament as well as a spot in the semi-finals of the Sixth Region Tournament, the North Bullitt Lady Eagles are in a rebuilding mode this fall.

  • Being a volleyball team in the...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – Life is tough in the Sixth Region, especially if you are a volleyball coach.

That fact was true long before the three Bullitt County schools joined the Sixth Region for volleyball last season.

Just call it the Mercy rule.

  • Volleyball season opens play...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – After a season that included more than its fair share of disappointments, the Bullitt Central volleyball team is looking for a much better season in 2013.

That is often the feeling when you have every player back from a year ago. After posting a 5-26 mark, coach Katie VanVactor’s program is looking to be if just because they are older and more experienced.

  • Correction needs; Volleyball...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – I know this might be hard to believe, but every so often the Sports Editor makes a mistake.

  • Top golfers are regional threats

SHEPHERDSVILLE – There are few seasons when expectations for the Bullitt East boys’ golf team are not modest, but this fall, coach Kyle Downs feels that his team is coming of age and ready to contend once again for regional golf honors.

  • Youth football shifts to...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – The Greater Bullitt County Youth Football League will kick-off another season on Saturday with new lights on one field and a new schedule that shifts all regular season games to Saturday.

  • St. X wins Charger Open golf...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – The 2013 boys’ high school golf season got off with a bang on Friday with The Charger Open sponsored by Schmid Funeral Home.

Friday was the first day that teams in Kentucky could play matches and many of the top teams in the area opted to head to Heritage Hill Golf Course for the renewal of the Bullitt East event which had been on hiatius for the past few years because of conflicts with the start of the school year.

  • MW U-8 All-Stars win Ohio Valley...

MOUNT WASHINGTON – A rare loss this summer for the Mount Washington Under-8 All-Stars turned out to be just the spark the team needed as they bounced back to win four straight games in bracket play to win the Babe Ruth Ohio Valley Regional Tournament last weekend in Vincennes, Indiana.

In the championship game, coach Jason Crumbacker’s team squared off with a familiar foe, Jeffersontown. Mount Washington scoed early and then rolled to a 4-1 win to claim the title in a field of 20 teams.

  • Lady Chargers looking to climb...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – With all five players returning who played in last year’s regional tournament, the Bullitt East Lady Charger golf team is ready to move into the top half of the teams in Region 3 this fall.

Still, the team has only one senior, Olivia Pruitt, so the future is bright for coach Andy Oder’s program. After reaching the state tournament in 2010 with a senior-laden team, Oder has been rebuilding the program.

  • Next KHSAA project could be...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – The news in Monday’s edition of The Pioneer News about the move of North Bullitt and Bullitt East from Class 2-A to Class 3-A in both cross-country and track and field did not come as a surprise to anyone.

While the two schools have done well in Class 2-A in recent years, the move shouldn’t be a backbreaker for coaches Michael Whitfill (NB) and Lenny Raley (BE). The two coaches pull double duty at both schools, serving now only as the head coaches of both sports, but doing it for both the boys’ and the girls’ programs.
