SHEPHERDSVILLE - Heading into the annual showdown The War, Bullitt East head coach Doug Preston had a simple mantra for the week, telling his players that nothing was going to be given to them, that they had to go out and take the victory.

The Chargers did just that on Friday, snapping a two-game losing streak in The War with a 36-25 victory over Bullitt Central in the annual game for bragging rights in the county.

SHEPHERDSVILLE - On Friday, the Kentucky High School Athletic Association released the enrollment figures that will be used for a major realignment of football for the 2011-2014 seasons.

  • Chargers win The War on the...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - The War is in the history books for another year and just what did we learn from Bullitt East’s 36-25 victory?

First and foremost we learned what we have been told since we old enough to point to a television set while the game was in progress and what coaches have preached, but probably didn’t always believe themselves - that in big rivalry games like The War, you can throw out the records and what all the fans think will happen. In these battles emotion plays an extra big role.

  • Girls' and boys' golf...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - North Bullitt capped off the best golf season in the school’s history on Wednesday by winning the championship trophy of the Two-County Cup Tournament at Heritage Hill Golf Course.

  • Eagles ready for mega-showdown...

HEBRON ESTATES - The North Bullitt Eagles will find out exactly where they stand in the Class 4-A football hierarchy on Friday when they play host to Martha Layne Collins High School, the new school formed in Shelby County.

The first-year Titans stand at 5-1 overall and are already 2-1 in the district. They are coming off a 52-7 win over Bullitt East and have also beaten LaRue County within the district. The lone loss was to Marion County by a 30-27 count back on Sept. 3.

  • Awful start gives Chargers no...

SHELBYVILLE - For the fifth time in the six games played this season, the Bullitt East Chargers found themselves down an early touchdown.

Sometimes the red and gold have been able to rally this season and sometimes they have not. On Friday, there was no chance to battle back after the Chargers fell behind 35-0 in the first quarter against first-year football power Martha Layne Collins High School. It was all over but the shouting at that point as the Titans went on to win 52-7.

  • North rallies late to get past...

HEBRON ESTATES - A hot local volleyball season got turned up a few more degrees last Tuesday as North Bullitt and Bullitt East battled through three intense games before the Lady Eagles scored the last four points of the match for the victory.

The victory went to the green and gold by a 25-12, 20-25, 26-24 count.

Through a strange fluke in the scheduling, the two teams will meet again this Thursday in Mount Washington.

  • BE girls go to 8-0-1 in win over...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - The Bullitt East Lady Chargers have rocketed out of the starting gate this soccer season and they showed their heels to Bullitt Central last Wednesday with a 10-0 victory in the only regular season meeting between the two rivals this fall.

Coach Britney Orme’s team scored five times in the first half and then added another five goals in the second half before the contest was stopped with 19 minutes remaining on the clock.

  • Eagles' rushing game...

SHELBYVILLE - The North Bullitt Eagles are not flying very high right now...and that is just fine with head coach Brett Newton and the green and gold fan base.

North Bullitt (3-2 overall, 1-0 in the district) picked up its third straight win on Friday, beating district rival Shelby County 40-18, by keeping the ball on the ground. The Eagles and quarterback Dalton Hadley put the ball in the air just three times, completing two for 63 yards.
