  • Cougars get big win; Chargers in...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – After starting the season 9-2, the Bullitt Central Cougars hit a few bumps in the road during January, but they got a big win on Tuesday as they traveled into Jefferson County and beat Shawnee 57-52.

The Cougars are now 3-3 since that fast start and so are 12-4 heading into a busy weekend that had them playing on both Thursday and Friday.

  • 'Small' works for...

MOUNT WASHINGTON – It might be basketball, but there are still times where small and quick can get the best of a bigger basketball team.

That was the case on Thursday night in the championship game of the Boy’s Bullitt County Middle School Basketball Tournament at Eastside Middle School.

Putting on an offensive showcase, the Eastside Eagles scored 36 points in the first half and then rolled to a 66-41 victory over the Zoneton Timberwolves.

  • Christian Academy pulls away...

LOUISVILLE – The North Bullitt Lady Eagles have been moving up the area basketball chain in recent years and coach Amber Courtney’s team got to move into the best neighborhood around on Saturday as they competed in the Raatz Fence/O’Shea’s Basketball Classic at Mercy High School.

  • Dismal-shooting East girls come...

LOUISVILLE – A lot has been made lately of the Bullitt Lady Chargers and their suffocating defense and with good reason.

Still, every so often you have to put the ball in the basket.

That certainly didn’t happen very often on Saturday as the Lady Chargers dropped a 55-39 decision to Sacred Heart in the Raatz Fence/O’Shea’s Basketball Classic at Mercy High School. Bullitt East shot just 25 percent from the field against the Valkyries and made it worse by connecting on just 10 of 26 at the free throw line.

  • Friday filled with woe for three...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – Coming off a big win two nights earlier over Moore, the Bullitt Central Cougars came up short on Friday as they dropped a tight 51-44 decision to visiting DeSales.

In a battle between two teams who each already have double-digit numbers in the win column, the Cougars could not generate enough offense to catch the Colts who outscored the home team in each of the first three quarters by narrow margins.

  • Eagles stay hot, race past...

OKOLONA – The North Bullitt Eagles took a big step to securing the number one seed for the Boys’ 23rd District Basketball Tournament on Monday as the green and gold overcame a few rough spots to beat defending champion Moore 65-56.

The win moved North Bullitt to 2-0 in district play with another key game on Thursday when the Eagles play host to Southern. Bullitt Central is 2-1 in the district while Moore is now 0-2 and Southern is 0-1.

  • Lady Chargers open action in LIT...

LOUISVILLE – The Bullitt East Lady Chargers will open play tonight in the Girls’ Louisville Invitational Tournament at Bellarmine University’s Knights Hall.

Bullitt East has a two-game losing streak heading into this event, but has the number-four seed amongst the 12 Louisville area teams that are participating. Because of the high seed, Bullitt East did not play on Tuesday during the first four games of the event.

  • BC grabs key district win over...

SHEPHERDSVILLE -- Forget that the Moore Mustangs came into Bullitt Central's gym with only two wins this season.

  • North could be looking at two...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – If the weather holds this week, and I know that is a huge ‘IF’ the way cold and snow have affected the area over the past month, but if the weather holds, this could be one of the biggest basketball weeks ever for the North Bullitt Eagles.

By extension, if the Eagles have a big week this week, it could set the stage for a monumental occurrence for Bullitt County basketball as a whole.

But first, let us stick to this week and North Bullitt.

  • East gets first-ever district...

LOUISVILLE – For the first time ever, the Bullitt East Lady Chargers beat Mercy in a 24th District game on Wednesday as they jumped on top early and then rolled to an impressive 63-38 victory.

The game has been moved back one night before of bad weather the previous day. As it turned out, Mercy had classes on game day, but Bullitt East did not. Still, the Lady Chargers jumped out to a 23-8 lead after one quarter and never looked back, outscoring the 2010 State Champions in each quarter.
