  • North holds off furious BC rally...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – Playing for the second time in 10 days, the outcome was much the same on Monday as North Bullitt pinned a second defeat on arch-rival Bullitt Central in five games.

North Bullitt, after winning the first two games in convincing fashion, had to pull it back together in the final game to win 15-6. The final score was 25-13, 25-16, 17-25, 17-25, 15-6.

  • A single stroke keeps Chargers...

FAIRDALE – Before Monday’s Region 5 Boys’ Golf Tournament, Bullitt East senior Michael Murphy told head coach Kyle Downs that he wanted to know if the team needed a certain score down the stretch.

Murphy knew that playing in the final group of the day that the team chase might come down to one shot.

Knowing that information is not something that every golfer wants to be told about when they are playing in a major event. The pressure is already high and that can make it suffocating.

  • Key miscues haunt Cougars in E-...

ELIZABETHTOWN – Despite collecting 469 yards of offense, the Bullitt Central Cougars came up short on Friday as they dropped a second straight game on the road, falling at Elizabethtown 42-21.

The Cougars led 7-0 after the first series of the game and the game was sited at 14-14 late in the third quarter before the Panthers scored on four straight possessions to break the game open.

  • East gallops past Colonels with...

MOUNT WASHINGTON – It’s hard to score if you don’t have the ball.

The Bullitt East Chargers gave the saying some backbone on Friday as they ran 35 more plays from scrimmage than visiting Oldham County. That was the difference as the red and gold won for the fifth time in six outings this fall, beating the Colonels 38-21.

  • East wins One-County; Regionals...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – The Bullitt East boys’ golf team won its third straight Two-County Cup trophy on Wednesday, easily slipping past North Bullitt and Bullitt Central.

Normally, Spencer County is involved in the event, but a new coach failed to put it on his schedule. When the three Bullitt County teams arrived at Tanglewood Golf Course on Tuesday for the first day of play, they were surprised to find Spencer County playing someone else.

  • Eagles make big move late to...

NEW CASTLE -- Playmakers make plays.

  • Homecoming at East; North and BC...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – After the first weekend shut-out for the three Bullitt County football programs, they will all be back in action this Friday as they try to get back to winning ways.

This is an important week for all three teams in that it will be the last tune-up for all three before they enter the three week district slate of games that will determine the success of their season – as well as the Bullitt Cup winner.

  • Rain pulls out in time for youth...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – Once again this season, The Pioneer News will run the results from The Greater Bullitt County Youth Football League in each Wednesday edition during the season.

The statistics used each week are provided by the league and the individual teams. Questions about yardage, scoring and tackles should be directed to the league and those teams.

  • North rallies late to beat...

HEBRON ESTATES – Down two games to one after dropping the third game 25-12 to arch-rival Bullitt Central, the North Bullitt Lady Eagles needed a big rally on Thursday.

The green and gold got just that as first-year head coach Scott Whitlow’s team surged back to force a fifth game with a 25-19 win in game four and then rallied from an early hole to win the fifth game 15-9.

  • Lady Chargers retain Bullitt Cup

SHEPHERDSVILLE - Girls’ golf is not normally a fast-moving sport, but a high school tournament doesn’t normally take six days.

That was the case with the 2013 Bullitt Cup after lightening halted play on a Tuesday at Heritage Hill Golf Course. Play did not resume until last Monday with the Bullitt East Lady Chargers retaining the traveling trophy that is sponsored by Schmid Funeral Home.

Bullitt East with the minimum of four golfers, won the event with a 197 total. Bullitt Central and North Bullitt tied for the runner-up spot at 271.
