  • Pryor ready to take North girls...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - For veteran North Bullitt volleyball coach Jeanette Pryor, the 2010 season presents talent, but a noticeable lack of experience.

The Lady Eagles have just three seniors and one junior in the program. Of the 11 players that will be part of the varsity team at the start of the season, only six were filling those roles a year ago.

The seniors have filled the leadership role well to this point.

  • Fisher takes over major...

MOUNT WASHINGTON - The players have changed and the coach is different, but the expectations have remained the same for the Bullitt East Lady Chargers heading into the 2010 volleyball season.

Few programs have ever suffered graduation losses as great as those of the red and gold since last season. Two of the players are now set to start college volleyball careers, while of those, Jade Troutman, played on six straight district championship teams.

  • Lady Cougars set to rely on...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - Most high school volleyball teams are heavily weighted to seniors and juniors when it comes to the roster. Still, even most of those teams have a sophomore or freshman somewhere sprinkled into the mix.

Not the Bullitt Central Lady Cougars. Head coach Jennifer Romine will have a mature group in 2010 as her 12-player roster is evenly divided between seniors and juniors. Eight of those 12 players were on the varsity team a year ago.

Entering her second season as the head coach, Romine is also more mature and knows more of what to expect this season.

  • Lady Charger seniors look to go...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - The Bullitt East Lady Charger golf program has grown in front of our eyes in recent years and now it is ready to reach maturity.

The core group of players has been the same for the past four years. In fact, a year ago, coach Andy Oder’s team did not have a senior. That will change this season as the varsity program has three seniors and three juniors.

  • Volleyball energy comes from...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - At this point, volleyball hasn’t quite yet caught the imagination of the local sports community like football, basketball, baseball and softball, but it is gaining momentum, much like soccer.

This year, there is a new energy surrounding volleyball and for a simple reason - parity. Bullitt East has won six straight district titles and pretty much has dominated play each of those seasons. Regular season losses to their county rivals were few and far between (but did happen every so often).

  • Mother Nature Scores Win at...

BARDSTOWN - It was first place track points night for all drivers that started their respective divisions feature race event on Saturday evening at Bluegrass Speedway, but Mother Nature had other ideas for the evening and around 6:00 p.m. prior to the drivers meeting being called, a deluge of rain would fall over the track and force track promoters David and Anita Ferrell to cancel the racing program for the evening.  It is the third rainout suffered this season at the ½ mile Nelson County clay oval.

  • North opens with Doss on Thursday

HEBRON ESTATES - The North Bullitt Eagles have seen a lot of Doss running back Tyrone Mack over the last two years. Most of the time they want to forget what he has done.

The Eagles, with high expectations for this season, will open the 2010 campaign on Thursday against one of the toughest teams on their schedule. Doss was only 5-7 a year ago but they beat North Bullitt 13-0 in last season’s first game. The Dragons are picked second to state runner-up John Hardin in Class 5-A, district three.

  • Lady Charger golf heats up as...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - Bullitt East Lady Charger golf coach Andy Oder wasn’t pleased with the way his team opened the season, but as week one continued the team started to show its strength battling many of the top teams in the state.
