  • District Champs--BE pulls away...

     SHELBYVILLE – After giving up ten straight points and the lead to start the second half without running a play from scrimmage, the Bullitt East Chargers needed a big play on Friday in their district showdown with Shelby County.

         It turned out to be that simple for the red and gold. On the very next play, the Chargers gave the ball to senior running back Brandon Samuels on a routine veer play off right tackle. Samuels was greeted with a huge hole and he did the rest, racing 75 yards to the endzone.

     SHEPHERDSVILLE – With at least one play-off game at home already in the bag, the Bullitt East Chargers will have the opportunity on Friday to add a possible second home game as well as a district championship when they travel to Shelby County.

    Despite a loss to North Bullitt two weeks ago, Shelby County is also in charge of its own destiny as they can claim the district title with a win over Bullitt East and get two home games in November.

  • After first week, divisions down...

     All the team were playing for keeps on Saturday as The Greater Bullitt County Youth Football League opened the post-season with a full slate of 16 games. Each of the winning teams advances to this Saturday’s semi-final action in the chase for the right to play on Championship Saturday, Nov. 2.

     

    ‘A’ Showdowns

    In one of the ‘A’ games on Saturday, the top-seeded Overdale Chiefs rolled to an easy victory as they defeated the eighth-seeded Brooks Saints by a 51-=0 score.

     SHEPHERDSVILLE – One of the last words you want to hear as the Sports Editor of a newspaper is ‘Oops.’

    Twice in the past week I’ve had to tell myself ‘Oops’. One I don’t have much trouble passing along, the other was my bad.

     MOUNT WASHINGTON – Bullitt East made the most out of a bad situation on Monday when the school named former head coach Bob Blackburn the boys’ head basketball coach for the upcoming season.

     OKOLONA – The Bullitt East Lady Chargers did just what every coach dreams about – they played their best in the post-season.

    The Lady Chargers did just that on Monday, jumping out to an early advantage and then rolling past Whitefield Academy in the semi-finals of the 24th District Tournament on the Lady Wildcats’ home floor. The final tally was 25-18, 25-19, 19-25, 25-16.

     LOUISVILLE – The Bullitt East Lady Chargers got the preliminary match out of the way on Monday in the Girls’ Sixth Region Soccer Tournament, setting up some bigger matches later in the week.

    Playing at Holy Cross for the second straight year in the first-round of the regional tournament, Bullitt East jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first half and then coasted to a 4-0 win.
