  • East’s Stevens sweeps...

        LOUISVILLE - Overcoming the pressure of being the defending champion as well as having the top seed by a wide margin in both of her events, Bullitt East senior Jackie Stevens closed out here high school track career with a highlight day at the Class AA Kentucky State Track and Field Championships on Thursday at the University of Louisville.

        Competing more against her own high standards than against the other throwers, Stevens lapped the field in winning both the discus and the shot put for the second straight year.

  • 79 games in four days set for BE...

        MOUNT WASHINGTON - The basketball crazy month of June for Bullitt East basketball will finish with a flurry this week with the return of the Bullitt East Summer Shoot-out.

        The major summer event for girls’ basketball will cover four days starting on Monday. Games will be played at both Bullitt East High School and Mount Washington Middle School. Overall, there will be 79 game played as 25 varsity squads and 15 junior-varsity squads will converge on the area.

  • North's 'Slayer'...

        LOUISVILLE - Twice in the past two weeks, North Bullitt’s Chelsey Slayton had lost competitive 800-meter races to Fairdale’s Tia Weston.

        On Thursday at the Class AA Kentucky State Track and Field Championships at the University of Louisville, Slayton ran the best race of her young life, clipping almost four seconds off her personal best and keeping Weston in her rear view mirror down the stretch in winning the state championship in a blistering 2:21.35.

        BARDSTOWN - Bluegrass Speedway was closed on Saturday July 3, but track promoters David and Anita Ferrell will return racing action to the ½ mile, high-banked Nelson County clay oval on Saturday July 10 as the National All Star Racing Association returns for the 12th Annual Kentuckiana Klash contest, paying $5,000 to win for Super Late Models.            

     

  • Charger Youth Soccer Camp

        The first week of the summer camp season included a little World Cup Fever in Mount Washington with the Charger Youth Soccer Camp.

        There were more than 40 players taking part over four days.

        The camp was run by Bullitt East coaches Mike Brangers and Larry Steinmetz.

    BARDSTOWN - The American Modified Series presented by Force Fuel and Engine Conditioner would visit Bluegrass Speedway on Saturday evening for the 10th Annual Mod Squad Bash and Jason Wheatley of Loretto, KY would grab the $1,500 payday in the event with an exciting last lap pass for the win. It would be 7th Annual Topless Terror Night for the 44 Auto Mart Super Late Models and Jeff Watson of Campbellsville, KY would take his second win of the season in the division, while Pat Hagan of New Haven, KY would score the victory in the WBRT 1320-AM UMP Sportsman feature event.

  • BE duo helps Kentucky split with...

        LOUISVILLE - A big turnaround in just 24-hours isn’t the normal in high school basketball circles, but the Kentucky All-Stars performed the slight of hand to perfection last week, reversing an opening loss to Indiana on Friday to beat the best from the north 94-87 in overtime on Saturday in Indianapolis.

        In the first game Friday, at Bellarmine University, the Kentucky All-Stars had an early advantage, but couldn’t hold it, falling 93-83.

  • Lady Eagle Hoops Camp

        There was plenty of fun to be had last week at North Bullitt during the first annual Lady Eagle Basketball Camp.

        The event was run by North Bullitt head coach Amber Courtney who just completed her first season at the helm.

        The camp attracted 57 young ladies for four days of basketball activities.

        SALEM, Ind. - The much anticipated grand opening of the new Salem Speedway infield short-track is set for this Sunday afternoon.  The history making event features the International Outlaw Figure 8 Series (IOFS), Lucas Oil Super Stocks, Dave & Deb’s Winner’s Circle Street Stocks, Pure Stocks and Front Wheel Drive Stocks.
