  • No seniors? No problem for Lady...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - Veteran Bullitt Central softball coach Buddy Gallemore will be the first to agree with you when you point out just how young his 2010 Lady Cougars are.

In the very next breath, Gallemore will tell you that his team won’t use that as an excuse this year. He will also remind you that a players’ class at Bullitt Central isn’t exclusive to their experience level.

SHEPHERDSVILLE - When some bigger schools went in other directions, Bullitt Central football standout Jeremaie Bennett found the perfect fit at Pikeville College in eastern Kentucky.

  • Crooked shooting kept BC from...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - In the spring of 2010, the past basketball season at Bullitt Central could easily be labeled ‘The Team that Couldn’t Shoot Straight.’

In the spring of 2012, the most recent season might just be recalled as the foundation being laid for a rebuilt program.

Cougar head coach Joe Pat Lee can look at both situations and smile.

  • Lady Eagles set to make another...

HEBRON ESTATES - With six experienced seniors returning from last year’s 24th District Champions, the North Bullitt Lady Eagles are looking for big results during the 2010 season.

The good news is that the program is stable at the top with the return of head coach Eric Lambert. This will be his second season as the leader after the program went through a series of coaching changes the previous few years.

  • BE's big rally falls short...

LOUISVILLE - A pair of long droughts put the Bullitt East Lady Chargers behind the eight ball on Sunday afternoon in the Sixth Region Championship game and not even a remarkable comeback was enough as the red and gold lost a 48-43 decision to Butler.

The Lady Chargers, the state’s 16th-ranked team, went nearly seven minutes early in the second quarter with only three free throws to show for it and followed that up with a six minute scoreless span in the third quarter that allowed Butler to take a 36-21 lead.

MOUNT WASHINGTON - It was Tuesday, Feb. 9. A heavy blanket of snow covered the region, bringing transportation to a virtual halt.

Several of the flights in and out of Louisville’s International Airport were cancelled, including one scheduled to fly to Orlando, Fla. the next morning.

  • Ball fields coming along in...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - While the activities have slowed due to the winter weather, things have been busy along the Salt River.

Shepherdsville’s First Street Park has been a beehive of activity - from the public and from construction crews.

Engineer Rob Campbell said a lot of work has been done at the Shepherdsville Park over the past year.

Recently, the city hosted a luncheon to show off the improvements from some of the contributors and to talk about plans for the future.

  • Bitter Finish - Chargers stuble...

LOUISVILLE - Bullitt East’s magic carpet ride of a season came to a frustrating end Saturday night in the semi-finals of the Sixth Region Tournament.

Leading 57-49 with 2:10 remaining against Butler, the Chargers failed to close the deal, turning the ball over three times during the next 90 seconds. The Bears would end the game on a 13-1 run as they won 62-58 before an overflow crowd at Knights Hall on the campus of Bellarmine University.

  • End of basketball means spring...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - While most of the sports focus this past weekend was on Bullitt East having a pair of teams in the Sixth Region basketball semi-finals, a small contingent of local track athletes was having a big day at the 50th annual Mason-Dixon Games in Broadbent Arena.

The Mason-Dixon Games serve as the official/unofficial Indoor State Track and Field Championships.
