  • BC boys' soccer is starting...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - Lots of high school sports programs go through 'rebuilding' phases.

Not many pretty much start over.

That is what the Bullitt Central boys' soccer team is going to try to do this season after failing to win a single game last season and scoring just three goals. Half of the ten matches were called early after the Cougars fell behind by ten goals.

  • New volleyball district is...

MOUNT WASHINGTON - Of all the shuffling and realignment that the Bullitt County programs will go through this year, no team was put in a more precarious position than the Bullitt East volleyball squad.

  • East hoping for a healthy...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - The Bullitt East football program, like most others, has had its ups and downs over the years.

The one big difference is that the Chargers rarely stay down very long.

Following a pair of disappointing seasons that saw the team lose the last three games in each campaign as well as a first-round play-off game in 2011, the red and gold are looking to make some big steps forward this fall.

  • Dream still alive for Leach as...

LOUISVILLE - Call it a bit untraditional but Calvin Leach is fulfilling a dream.

The Bullitt County native didn't play basketball at Pleasure Ridge Park and he is 22 years old.

But his dream of playing college hoops led him to follow his heart.

This fall, Leach will be attending Trinity Baptist College in Jacksonville, Fla., to play basketball.

BARDSTOWN - When Roger Robinson’s Bethlehem baseball squad gets back to practice in a few months, he’ll be without stalwart southpaw Brandon Ray for the first time in a long time.

  • Eagle soccer rebuilding after...

HEBRON ESTATES - Over the past two seasons, the North Bullitt boys’ soccer program has put an entertaining style of play on the field.

  • East girls look to make hay in...

MOUNT WASHINGTON - After a 2011 season that finished with a 12-10 record that included both a seven game winning streak and an eight game losing streak, the Bullitt East Lady Chargers are looking for new heights this season.

  • Realignment could benefit BC...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - Over the past eight seasons, playing in the Ninth District, the Bullitt Central Lady Cougars struggled to be relevant.

  • BC volleyball has some big shoes...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - You can go home again. That is the case for first-year Bullitt Central volleyball head coach Katie VanVactor, a former Lady Cougar player.

The 2005 graduate, who was Katie Lee at the time, takes over for Jennifer Romine who stepped down after getting the maroon and gray to the Eighth Region Tournament for two straight seasons including a 28th District crown in 2010.

  • Youth football swings into...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - Another season of play in the Greater Bullitt County Youth Football League will kick off on Saturday as the league’s nine programs get ready to battle it out over the next 13 weeks to crown champions in all four age divisions.

The independent football league is the second-largest sports program in Bullitt County, trailing only youth basketball in terms of participation.
