  • Thursday night lockdown didn...

LOUISVILLE - If you do this job long enough, you will finally see it all.

Still, Thursday night’s power outage at Bellarmine University, which forced most of the regional tournaments in Louisville back a day, was something I had never been a part of or even imagined could ever happen.

  • Oh Sweat! Junior's bomb at...

OKOLONA - A three-pointer from junior Hayden Sweat with three seconds remaining was the harpoon that finally lifted the Bullitt East Chargers to a 57-55 victory over Fairdale in the championship game of the 24th District Tournament at Southern High School.

  • Friday was a big day/night to...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - Friday was a red letter day to be a Bullitt East Charger.

First and foremost, that night the Chargers won their first 24th District Title when they got a three-point shot from Hayden Sweat at :03 to beat new-rival Fairdale 57-55. It was the third time in the last four years that the two programs had met for the district crown.

On a team that starts two freshmen, two juniors and a senior, winning a district title is a wonderful accomplishment.

  • Lady Chargers bounce Holy Cross

LOUISVILLE - The Bullitt East Lady Chargers made something that is quite difficult look easy on Friday in the semi-finals of the Girls’ Sixth Region Tournament at Bellarmine University’s Knights Hall.

Holding Holy Cross, the highest scoring team in the region, to 26 points below its average, the Lady Chargers rolled into Sunday’s championship game with a 54-36 win over the Lady Cougars.

  • LJ pool may be replaced by spray...

LEBANON JUNCTION - It is doubtful that the swimming pool behind Lebanon Junction Elementary reopens in the future.

But there might be a more feasible alternative to keep youngsters cool in the summer time.

Fourth District magistrate David Walker floated an idea to members of the Lebanon Junction City Council to gather their interest and comments.

The existing pool did not open last summer due to a leak and needed repairs to meet the federal Virginia Grahme bill on filtration systems.

  • Lady Chargers roll past Raiders

LOUISVILLE - The Bullitt East Lady Chargers took care business on Tuesday, rolling to an easy win in the first round of the Girls’ 6th Region Tournament at Atherton High School.

The red and gold were heavy favorites and had little trouble turning back defending state champion Iroquois by a 57-31 score. Bullitt East was up 33-9 at halftime and was never challenged.

  • YMCA hopes to expand use of...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - Success can lead to issues.

Issues can lead to concerns or they can lead to solutions.

Shepherdsville city leaders hope they can find some solutions to the problems the Bullitt County Family YMCA is experiencing due to the continued growth in its soccer program.

Since 1989, YMCA director June Daugherty said the city has been a partner in allowing recreational activities to be hosted at the Frank Simon Park off Highway 44 West.

  • Lady Chargers start with two...

OKOLONA - The appetizer was just fine for the Bullitt East Lady Chargers last week as a pair of lopsided wins led to a second straight 24th District title.

But as any good appetizer does, it just whets the appetite for the main course.

That was the reason that there were no shouts of joy or high-fives after the Lady Chargers dispatched Fairdale 43-28 on Thursday in the championship game at Southern High School. Bullitt East (25-3) has their eye on the prize this week as the red and gold enter Sixth Region play as the favorites.

  • OT Survivor - Chargers slip past...

LOUISVILLE - Nothing has come easy so far in the 2010 post-season for the Bullitt East Chargers, but that sure does make it taste sweet when the ‘W’ is finally secured.

That was the case for the third straight game on Monday as the red and gold won a boys’ Sixth Region Tournament contest for the first time in school history after two previous tries. It took an overtime, but the Chargers turned back Valley 45-42 in the fourth and final opening round game.

  • Fairdale has way too many...

OKOLONA - The Bullitt Central Cougars may have been outscored on Tuesday night in the semifinals of the 24th District basketball tournament but don't tell coach Joe Pat Lee that his team was outplayed.

Battling a senior-laden Fairdale Bulldog team, the Cougars fell 70-41 on Tuesday night.

"They were ready to play tonight," Lee said in discounting any excuse of having a letdown after an emotional win the night before against North Bullitt.' "We played out butts off."
