  • Lady Chargers start with two...

OKOLONA - The appetizer was just fine for the Bullitt East Lady Chargers last week as a pair of lopsided wins led to a second straight 24th District title.

But as any good appetizer does, it just whets the appetite for the main course.

That was the reason that there were no shouts of joy or high-fives after the Lady Chargers dispatched Fairdale 43-28 on Thursday in the championship game at Southern High School. Bullitt East (25-3) has their eye on the prize this week as the red and gold enter Sixth Region play as the favorites.

  • OT Survivor - Chargers slip past...

LOUISVILLE - Nothing has come easy so far in the 2010 post-season for the Bullitt East Chargers, but that sure does make it taste sweet when the ‘W’ is finally secured.

That was the case for the third straight game on Monday as the red and gold won a boys’ Sixth Region Tournament contest for the first time in school history after two previous tries. It took an overtime, but the Chargers turned back Valley 45-42 in the fourth and final opening round game.

  • Fairdale has way too many...

OKOLONA - The Bullitt Central Cougars may have been outscored on Tuesday night in the semifinals of the 24th District basketball tournament but don't tell coach Joe Pat Lee that his team was outplayed.

Battling a senior-laden Fairdale Bulldog team, the Cougars fell 70-41 on Tuesday night.

"They were ready to play tonight," Lee said in discounting any excuse of having a letdown after an emotional win the night before against North Bullitt.' "We played out butts off."

  • Shooting is missing in action...

OKOLONA - After averaging 86 points a contest over the last three games of the regular season, the North Bullitt Lady Eagles were on a roll heading into this week’s 24th District Tournament at Southern High School.

        That roll didn’t last long.

Reverting to some old ways, North Bullitt scored just eight points in the first half and then could never get closer than 13 points the rest of the way en route to a 49-32 loss to Southern on Monday.

  • BE pulls away late Wednesday;...

OKOLONA - Pulling away in the second half, the Bullitt East Chargers beat the Southern Trojans 53-44 on Wednesday in the semi-finals of the Boys’ 24th District Tournament at Southern High School.

The win reversed a semi-final loss that Bullitt East suffered a year ago in the tournament and sent the Chargers into Friday’s championship game against Fairdale. Bullitt East had the two-seed for this game with Southern third after the red and gold won a two-pointer overtime game in December.

  • Cougars take first Stepp in post...

OKOLONA - An 18-0 run midway through the first half set the stage for the rest of the game as Bullitt Central sent North Bullitt to the sidelines on the first night of the Boys’ 24th District Basketball Tournament at Southern High School.

The Cougars moved ahead 8-7 early in the big run and then never looked back as they rolled to a 66-55 victory. The win moved the maroon and gray into Tuesday night’s semi-finals where they were slated to take on top-seed Fairdale.

  • When the lights are out: 6th...

LOUISVILLE - Could the only thing that stops a Bullitt East Lady Charger march to the Sweet 16 be an electrical outage?

Time will only tell. However, the team's semifinal game in the Sixth Region basketball tournament was not played on Thursday.

Due to an electrical outage at Bellarmine University, which stopped the first game with less than four minutes remaining, Bullitt East Lady Chargers will take the floor tonight at 6 p.m.

The suspended game will be completed at 5 p.m. and then Bullitt East will face Holy Cross.

  • Lady Chargers open post-season...

OKOLONA - It took a few moments to get the motor warm-up, but after getting up to speed the Bullitt East Lady Chargers took care of business Tuesday night in the first semi-finals of the Girls’ 24th District Tournament at Southern High School.

Bullitt East only led 10-2 after one quarter, but then exploded for 27 points in the second frame against the fourth-seeded host team. Bullitt East, the top-seed for the tournament, was up 37-13 at halftime and then coasted to a 67-38 victory.

  • It has been a good season for BE...

MOUNT WASHINGTON - Not that it isn’t normally a pretty good time to be Chris Stallings, but this winter has been a particularly good time to be Chris Stallings.

The coach of the Bullitt East Lady Chargers is spending his 11th season on the bench as the head coach of the red and gold. The Lady Chargers are rolling along with a 22-3 mark as well as being ranked 15th in Kentucky. They are the number one team in the Sixth Region.

That is a good winter of work. However, Stallings is starting to get recognized for his career body of work.

  • Homecoming twins, Bratcher...

Bullitt East Homecoming: Twin Smiles - For perhaps the first time ever, a sister and brother were selected 2010 Basketball Homecoming Queen and King on Friday at Bullitt East.

Seniors Jade and Chase Troutman won the honors. The two are the daughter/son of Ricky Troutman and Laura Dalton.

    ########

Bratcher Honored - Bullitt East junior Jesse Bratcher, who was seriously injured in a football accident in September, was honored recently at the team’s season-ending banquet when his jersey was retired.
