SHEPHERDSVILLE - Bullitt Central hasn’t had a lot of success over the past decade or so in baseball, but third-year head coach Tommy Alvey feels that his team is just a few breaks away from having a winning record this year.

That was the case again last week as the team went 1-2. Even though the team was blanked in a perfect game by North Bullitt’s Matt Wagner, the Cougars only lost the game 1-0.

The maroon and gray then came back to blister Fern Creek 12-2 in five innings before falling to Jeffersontown 10-4 on Saturday.

HEBRON ESTATES - A spring break trip to the foothills of the Great Smokey Mountains turned out to be a positive adventure for the North Bullitt Eagles last week as coach Brian Wise’s team won four of five games.

That action left the team with a 5-3 mark after the first two weeks of the regular season.

“We were promised five games in four days and we got that in,” Wise said on Monday. “It was a good thing for us to get all the games in. All-in-all, it was a successful week.”

MOUNT WASHINGTON - Before the season began, Bullitt East Lady Charger head coach Chris Stallings talked about using a lot of players early in the season and then paring that number down in the second half of the season.

As it turned out, his players never made that possible. The Lady Chargers ended up just as likely to use 12 players in a big game in February as they were in December. Few teams in the state turned out to be as deep as the red and gold.

MOUNT WASHINGTON - The record isn’t what second-year Bullitt East softball coach Ed Phelps would like, but he feels that with a key play here or a hit there, that the Lady Cougars would have a much better record than the 1-6 start.

That was especially true last week as the team went to Fort Walton Beach, Florida for a spring break tournament. Bullitt East lost all five games on the trip but two of the losses were by single runs.
