  • Offense a no-show for Central...

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - For most of last week, the Bullitt Central Cougars struggled to score runs. When they did finally generate some offense, the pitching sagged.

    Put those two things together and it led to a 0-4 week for the maroon and gray.

    The first game was a 10-0 loss to Bullitt East in a district game that was pushed back a day. On Tuesday, coach Tommy Alvey’s team was no match for the Chargers (see additional information for this game in the story to the left), falling behind 3-0 after three innings.

  • PERFECT! NB's Wagner...

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Up until the start of his senior season, North Bullitt’s Matt Wagner had great stuff on the mound, but he couldn’t always find the plate.

    Now, Wagner has worked out the control problems and he is suddenly one of the best pitchers in the area. That was obvious on Wednesday when he threw the first perfect game in North Bullitt baseball history as the Eagles slipped past Bullitt Central 1-0.

    Earlier in the season he had combined on a no-hitter with Cody Adkins in a  win over Beth Haven.

  • Lady Eagles have an up and down...

    HEBRON ESTATES -- It was a mixed bag of results for the North Bullitt Lady Eagles as they split four games.

    Obviously, the biggest game of the week was the showdown with Bullitt East on Wednesday in Mount Washington. That one went into extra innings before the Lady Chargers won 5-4 (see story above).

    North Bullitt had tuned up for that game with a 14-0 victory over Seneca. After playing Bullitt East, the Lady Eagles took out their frustrations with a much easier than expected 16-0 victory over Southern in a rematch of last year’s 24th District championship contest.

  • Central upgrading football...

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - The excitement of the first winning season in 17 years is carrying over to this spring for the Bullitt Central football program.

    Last week, head coach Danny Leasor was gushing over how well spring practice had gone. He can’t wait for the middle of July to arrive and the start of practice for the 2009 season in which the Cougars should be very competitive with the move down to Class 5-A.

  • Wins over BC, NB and BC...

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - Few weeks during the regular season of the fast-pitch era have been much sweeter for the Bullitt East Lady Chargers.

    In three days, coach Ed Phelps’ team beat Bullitt Central 1-0, North Bullitt, 5-4, and then Bullitt Central again 7-0.

  • East's Stevens and Harrison...

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Bullitt East’s Jackie Stevens and Bobby Harrison put up impressive numbers again over the weekend as the Charger track and field teams competed in the Bulldog Classic at the University of Louisville.

    The meet included teams from four states, but for some reason the meet did not keep running team scores despite the fact that the top six finishers in each event were awarded ‘team’ points.

    Stevens, a junior, continued her domination of the discus and shot put this spring, winning both events against strong fields.

  • Chargers bounce back with hot...

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - After being shut-out for the first time this season and striking out 17 times on Tuesday against North Bullitt, the Bullitt East Chargers were obviously down.

    That didn’t last long. Over the next four days, the Chargers won four of five games. In the four wins, the red and gold scored 54 runs and didn’t strike out 17 times in the four games.

  • Mighty pitching duel goes to...

    HEBRON ESTATES - A great pitching duel went to the North Bullitt Eagles on Tuesday as the Eagles once again rode the spectacular pitching of senior Matt Wagner to a 1-0 victory over Bullitt East, the state’s sixth-ranked team.

    It was the second time in as many weeks that coach Brian Wise’s team needed a strong outing from Wagner. He threw a perfect game a week earlier against Bullitt Central in a 1-0 win and then on Tuesday he struck out a school-record 17 batters in the win over the Chargers.

  • Home-(Not so)-Sweet-Home for BC

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - It’s good to be home...sort of...if you are the Bullitt Central Cougars.

    Playing a home game for the first time in over a year last week, the maroon and gray were certainly happy for the situation. Unfortunately, in two home games last week, the Cougars came up on the short end of the score both times, which were the only two contests they played last week.

  • Lady Eagles stay hot; beat BC 5-1

    HEBRON ESTATES - It was a perfect week for the North Bullitt Lady Eagles as they added three more wins to the season including a 5-1 victory over Bullitt Central on Friday.

    It was the second win this spring over their county rivals for the green and gold, but this game was a lot closer than the earlier 10-1 game despite the fact that North Bullitt pitcher Cierra Hayes threw a no-hitter.

    North Bullitt impressed even head coach Eric Lambert earlier in the week when they beat Sixth Region rival Presentation 9-1. They followed that up with a 10-2 victory over Holy Cross.
