  • Blue Lick 15s advance with...

OKOLONA - This wasn’t a group of high school players who were on the same team or an AAU squad which had played together for years.

Instead, it was a team of players who attended different high schools and played for various rec ball teams at Blue Lick.

When coach David Hayes got the team assembled four weeks ago, he really wasn’t sure how well the Blue Lick 15-year-old All-Star team would do.

But he never allowed any doubt to be expressed.

  • Under-12 state tourney ends...

LOUISVILLE - The Under-12 Cal Ripken West Kentucky State Tournament had a pair of Bullitt County teams competing last week at the Germantown Recreation Complex in Louisville.

Unfortunately, the event did not end the way either the Mount Washington or Blue Lick All-Stars had envisioned.

After opening with a pair of wins to start the tournament and reaching the winner’s bracket final, Mount Washington struck out in two straight games over the weekend, losing to Barren County and then Jeffersontown to finish third in the 8-team event.

  • Improved U-11 All-Stars fall in...

MOUNT WASHINGTON - A week after going 0-2 in the combined District 10/11 Tournament on their home field, the Under-11 Mount Washington All-Stars made a remarkable recovery last week in the West Kentucky State Tournament that the league hosted.

Mount Washington won two early games to reach the winner’s bracket championship game of the 7-team event. At that point they met an old rival, Jeffersontown, the team that had won the District Tournament a week earlier. This time, Jeffersontown won again, 14-3.

  • Success continues for U-12 group

HIGHVIEW - It took just 20 hours for the Under-12 Mount Washington All-Stars to start what they hope is a long journey this summer in Cal Ripken Tournament action.

The flagship group of kids for the league in recent years, this was the fourth summer age group district title in five seasons for this core group of players and coaches.

  • Blue Lick U-12 All-Stars win...

FAIRDALE - Many of the members of the Blue Lick 12-year-old All-Star hadn’t participated in post-season play for a couple of years.

As 11 year olds, vacations and commitments to football didn’t allow enough players to be available to field an all-star team.

This year, the Blue Lick All-Stars made up for last year’s disappointment in a big way. The squad is heading to the West Kentucky state tournament this week at Germantown as district champs.

Blue Lick swept through the district tournament with three straight victories.

  • Blue Lick 10s fall short against...

HILLVIEW - The Blue Lick 10-year-old All-Stars ran into a pretty impressive foe in the championship of the district baseball tournament.

There was good reason the Prairie Village team won the state title the year before and they showed it again on Saturday.

But prior to losing in the championship game, Blue Lick pulled out a victory over Okolona to win the loser’s bracket title.

In fact, the 10-4 victory on Saturday over Okolona avenged a first-round loss to their Preston Highway neighbors to the north.

  • Parks proposal: Let YMCA manage...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - After studying the situation for several months, the Bullitt County Parks Board is ready to make a recommendation on the future of the sports programs.

But, before that final recommendation is made, the board is looking for input from the community.

A special meeting of the Bullitt County Parks Board will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 15, in the fiscal courtroom of the courthouse.

The public is encouraged to make its opinions known.

  • Mt. Washington hosts U8 &...

MOUNT WASHINGTON - Softball was certainly the name of the game two weekends ago as the Mount Washington Youth Baseball and Softball League hosted the 2010 East Kentucky State Softball Tournaments.

It turned out to be a heartbreaking ending for the Under-8 Mount Washington All-Stars as they finished third in the 11-team event.

  • Mt. Washington and Blue Lick...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - For the first time in a number of years, baseball All-Star teams from Blue Lick and Mt. Washington could meet this week in state tournament play.

The move comes when the districts on the east side of Jefferson and Bullitt Counties were switched from the East side of the state to the West side for this season.
