  • Lady Cougars had a dream season...

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - For three months, the Bullitt Central Lady Cougars had a dream season.

    In one half of one game, the final page of the story turned into a nightmare.

    Still, veteran head coach Bryan Bates is telling everyone that you have to look at a season as a complete package. In that regard, the Lady Cougars were very successful this winter, finishing with a 19-8 record.

  • Hanley's NCAA stay is short

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Bullitt East graduate Whitney Hanley and her Austin Peay teammates had a tough time on Sunday in the first round of the Women’s NCAA Basketball Tournament as they fell to number one seed Duke 83-42.

    The loss ended a magical run for the Lady Governor’s after they won three straight games in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament in Nashville ten days earlier.

    Austin Peay finished the season with a 17-16 mark.

  • Vincent signs for volleyball...

    HEBRON ESTATES " Kentucky Christian University’s top-10 program got the signature of North Bullitt’s Jordan Vincent recently to continue her volleyball career at the next level.

    Vincent was flanked by her parents, sister and coaches during the big day in the North Bullitt library. Kentucky Christian coach Bruce Dixon was also present to make it all official.

    Vincent has been a part of the Lady Eagle program for the past four seasons. She has also competed for three seasons with all club teams in Louisville.

  • Bullitt East archery team has...

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - After doing well two weeks ago at the high school regional competition at Moore High School, Bullitt East’s first-year archery program will compete on Tuesday in the state championships.

    Bullitt East is part of Kentucky’s National Archery in the Schools Program. The Charger program is really a continuation of the program started at Eastside Middle School. When they students got to Bullitt East, they pushed for the high school to add the program.

  • Micah's O'Brien closes...

    LOUISVILLE – Chad O’Brien, who grew up in Bullitt County playing basketball and then had a stellar career competing at Micah Christian Academy in the northern part of the county, recently completed a strong four-year career playing at Spalding University.

    The 6-4 guard took part in all but one game this season for coach Kevin Gray’s team and was one of four players on the team who averaged over 26 minutes a game on the court. For the season, O’Brien averaged 8.9 points a game and led the team with a 40 percent shooting mark on three-pointers.

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - What had been a regular season to remember for the Spalding Lady Golden Eagles ended being a spectacular campaign on Saturday when coach Charlie Just’s team defeated Southern Virginia 70-49 in the championship game of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association national tournament in Uniontown, Pennsylvania.

  • NB's Nichols to continue...

    HEBRON ESTATES – The move of St. Catharine University to a four-year school was just what North Bullitt senior Allison Nichols was looking for when it came to selecting a college.

    One visit to the campus in Springfield, Ky., was all it took for Nichols to decide it was the place for her, both athletically and academically.

    Recently in the North Bullitt library, she made it all official in front of family, coaches and St. Catharine head coach Paul Patton who has signed other Bullitt County soccer players in recent years.

  • East's Stevens and Harrison...

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Both Bullitt East and North Bullitt entered strong contingents in last weekend’s Class 2-A Mason-Dixon Games at Broadbent Arena in Louisville.

    The biggest indoor high school meet of the winter serves as the de-facto indoor state championships for the sport, although, the list of events is much different than an outdoor track meet in spring.

    On the girls’ side, Bullitt East finished eighth out of 28 teams that scored points. The lady Chargers had 20 points. North Bullitt collected two points in the girls’ meet.

  • East earns first regional win

    LOUISVILLE - A 20-5 surge midway through the second half broke open a closer than expected game for the Bullitt East Lady Chargers in the opening round of the Girls’ Sixth Region Tournament on Tuesday at Bellarmine University.

    A cold-shooting Lady Charger squad saw a 22-15 halftime advantage evaporate early in the third quarter when Pleasure Ridge Park pulled even at 23-23. Bullitt East never trailed in the second half, but it was still 31-27 when Bullitt East junior Kayla Thacker drained a three-pointer just before the end of the third quarter.

  • 2009 Women's NCAA Tourney:...

    MOUNT WASHINGTON – When the brackets for the 2009 Women’s NCAA Basketball Tournament are announced on Monday night on ESPN, former Bullitt East standout Whitney Hanley and her Austin Peay State teammates will be glued to a television to hear their names called.
