BARDSTOWN - Bluegrass Speedway presented the 7th Annual Jerry Rucker Memorial on Saturday evening and Dustin Neat of Dunnville, KY would pick up his second win of the season and second win in this event to collect the $2,000 payday.  It would be a night of seconds as other feature event winners for the evening included Shane Lafollette of Hodgenville, KY winning his second UMP Street Stock feature of the season, Benji Lee of Loretto, KY winning his second UMP Modified feature of the year, and Barry Chesser of Bloomfield, KY winning his second WBRT 1320-AM UMP Sportsm

BARDSTOWN - Bluegrass Speedway track promoters David and Anita Ferrell will again present exciting racing action at the ½ mile, high-banked Nelson County clay oval on Saturday June 5 as the WBRT 1320-AM UMP Sportsman division runs its biggest event of the season with the $500 to win 7th Annual Shorty Gardner Memorial event.

  • East's Stevens Honored Again

For the second time this season, Bullitt East senior Jackie Stevens was the Kentucky High School Track and Field Coaches’ Association Field Athlete of the Week last week.

Stevens is the defending Class AA State Champion in both the discus and shot put and is rated number one in both events this spring.

She will sign with Western Kentucky later this week.

  • East squads have top district...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - Spring sports in the round.

That will be the feeling this week as the 24th District Baseball and Softball Tournaments are contested at Bullitt Central. The action will start on Monday with games on the two fields just a few feet apart.

Earlier this season, Bullitt Central hosted Bullitt East with both the baseball and softball games starting at the same time. Fans could pretty much keep an eye on both games from one seat.

  • Bowles' one-hitter beats...

MOUNT WASHINGTON - Battling through the program’s first four-game losing skid since 2007, the last team that the Bullitt East Chargers needed to see next would be Lexington Catholic, the state’s top-ranked team and the defending state champions.

No problem. Senior pitcher Matt Bowles was masterful on Saturday, allowing just one hit in the final game of the ValuMarket Baseball Challenge. Still, the Chargers did not secure the win until the bottom of the eighth inning with a run on a bases loaded single by Josh Whitmer.

  • BE's Duvall lowers school...

MOUNT WASHINGTON - Bullitt East recently competed in the Oldham County Sundown Invitational, capturing four first-place finishes.

One of those victories came from sophomore Jacob Duvall who continued to lower the school record with a time of 15.74 in the 110-meter high hurdles. Duvall was also fifth in the 300-meter low hurdles.

  • Long wait does pay off for BE...

FRANKFORT - A middle of the season decision to combine his number two singles player with his top foreign exchange student paid dividends for Bullitt East boys’ tennis coach Dustin Armstrong last week as the pair became the first local boys’ entry to reach the state tournament since Bullitt County teams were shifted to the Eighth Region five years ago.

  • BE competes with Ballard; BC...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - With wins in seven of the last nine games of the regular season, the Bullitt Central Lady Cougars got hot and stayed hot after starting the season 2-14.

Some improvement is certainly expected of a team without any seniors and only a handful of juniors. Still, the final stretch of going 12-7 was as much as anyone could expect.

  • Eagles soar to sweep of county...

HEBRON ESTATES - The big guns were out in full force on Tuesday for the annual All-Bullitt County Track and Field Championships, but the biggest blast came at the end when the final team scores were announced.

It wasn’t just a good day for the North Bullitt Eagles, it was a great day as the green and gold swept both the boys’ and the girls’ titles in the most important meet of the regular season.
