  • BE hosts state's top teams

MOUNT WASHINGTON - Four of the top baseball programs in the state will converge on Mount Washington this weekend for the ValuMarket Charger Challenge.

This is the second year for the event and Bullitt East head coach Jeff Bowles is hoping for better weather than a year ago when action was completely washed out on Friday and then only a limited schedule was conducted on Saturday.

  • American Modified Series Comes...

BARDSTOWN - Bluegrass Speedway track promoters David and Anita Ferrell will again present racing action this Saturday May 15 as the American Modified Series presented by Force Fuel and Engine Conditioner makes its inaugural visit to the mile, high-banked Nelson County clay for the 10th Annual Mod Squad Bash, paying $1,500 to win for UMP Modifieds.

  • All-Bullitt County Track...

HEBRON ESTATES - For the first time in its 30-year history, the All-Bullitt County Track and Field Championships on Tuesday at North Bullitt will include a pair of former state champions.

Of course, the nature of the beast in the sport means that Bullitt East’s Jackie Stevens and North Bullitt’s Helen Heines won’t be competing against each other. In fact, they won’t even get near each other on Tuesday as Stevens works in the field and Heines on the track.

  • Lady Eagles keep winning, but...

HEBRON ESTATES - The North Bullitt Lady Eagles have not played a lot of games this spring, but the green and gold keep winning, adding two more victories to the ‘W’ column last week.

That action left coach Eric Lambert’s team with an impressive 7-2 record, but that is 13 fewer games this season than other teams in the Sixth Region, like Bullitt East, have played.

Lambert was hoping to make up some of that difference this past weekend, but rain on Friday forced the complete cancellation of a tournament at Henry County High School.

  • Lutes silences Lady Cougars in...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - It is doubtful that anyone outside of Shepherdsville knows the Bullitt Central softball program better than Bullitt East’s Jamie Lutes.

The sophomore pitcher used that knowledge to her best advantage on Thursday, hurling a three-hitter as she and her Charger teammates rolled to an important 6-0 district victory on the new field at Bullitt Central.

  • Chargers bring out the big bats...

MOUNT WASHINGTON - The Bullitt East Chargers did exactly what a top program should do in a district game.

The home team, which went to the state semifinals a year ago, started early and the bats never cooled off in a 13-0 district victory over North Bullitt.

“We really swing the bats well against North Bullitt,” Charger head coach Jeff Bowles said a few days later. “We hit everything they threw up there.”

  • Offense carries Cougars to a...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - Following one of the worst weeks of baseball for Bullitt Central in a number of years, the Cougars bounced back last week to win two of three including a key district contest against Fairdale.

While the offense and defense have made the Cougars competitive this season, the starting pitching continues to struggle for coach Tommy Alvey’s squad.

  • Run in eighth rallies North past...

HEBRON ESTATES - In a game with enough excitement for a whole week, the North Bullitt overcame an early 5-0 hole and rallied to beat Bullitt Central 6-5 in eight innings in the first district game in the 24th District this season.

The Lady Eagles, who were playing for the first time in almost two weeks, scored three times in the fifth inning and then tied the game with two runs in the seventh including the tying run on a controversial play that forced the extra innings.
