  • Tough play is key for Eagles

    OKOLONA - Lee Barger hasn’t had a lot of reasons to smile during the first half of the basketball season.

    However, the past week brought a little joy to the coach’s heart. And the North Bullitt boys’ coach couldn’t stop smiling Friday evening after his Eagles defeated the Southern Trojans 56-48.

    Searching for a playing rotation after having as many as 15 players seeing action early in the season, Barger has found the key - toughness.

  • Regional wrestling on Saturday...

    SHEPHERDSVILLE – The Bullitt Central wrestling program will move into the post-season Saturday when they compete in the Region III Championships at the Hoops Sports Academy off Blankenbaker Lane in eastern Jefferson County.

    Wrestling will begin at 10 a.m. for the 11 teams in the region. The finals will not start until much later in the day, around 6 p.m.

  • Winner takes all game goes to BE

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - The battle to decide the top-seed for the upcoming 24th District Tournament took a backseat to more emotional matters when Bullitt East invaded Bullitt Central on Friday.

    The emotional build-up came to an abrupt halt five minutes into the game when Bullitt Central sophomore guard Keoka Hilliard and Bullitt East’s Kayla Thacker collided as Thacker drove to the basket. The collision was relatively minor, but Hilliard fell awkwardly and hit her head on the floor.

  • No Barr, no problem for Chargers

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - No coach. No problem.

    That was the way the Bullitt East Chargers approached Friday night’s showdown with Bullitt Central. The team didn’t worry as they pulled away late in the firth half en route to a 92-67 victory.

    The Chargers made the trip to Shepherdsville without head coach Troy Barr who had been ejected from the team’s previous game with Fairdale. Under Kentucky High School Athletic Association rules, Barr then had to sit out the next game, which happened to be Bullitt Central.

  • Offense in high gear, Lady...

    OKOLONA - Scoring 59 points in three quarters is an offensive explosion for the North Bullitt Lady Eagles.

    But, you say, a basketball game is four quarters.

    Well, Bill Robinette’s team survived a scoreless third quarter to defeat homestanding Southern 59-37.

    “When we took the ball to the basket, we did very well,” said Robinette, whose team is now 6-14 on the season.

    His biggest concern may have been having enough players to finish the game.

    By the end of the first half, three of his starters had three fouls.

  • BREAKING NEWS: NB/BE FRIDAY...

    The basketball games played between the North Bullitt Eagles and the Bullitt East Chargers will be played at North Bullitt's gym Friday evening.

    Bullitt East homecoming will be delayed until next week.

    The move was made when it was determined not to use the Bullitt East gym due to roof damages.

    The boys' game will take place first, beginning at 6 p.m.

  • Chargers complete sweep of 8th...

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - The final game before the ice and snow hit the area went to the Bullitt East Chargers last Monday as coach Troy Barr’s team picked up another impressive win as they beat North Oldham 76-73.

    The Chargers are definitely back. After a four-game losing streak at the end of the holiday season dropped Bullitt East below .500 at 7-8, the red and gold have won six straight games.

  • Basketball teams hustling to get...

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Local high school athletic directors and coaches were busy on the phone early this week trying to reschedule games lost over the past week due to bad weather.

    The most important of the lost games will be made up tonight (Wednesday) when the 24th District showdown between the boys’ teams from Bullitt East and Fairdale will take place in Mount Washington. The junior-varsity game will be played at 6 p.m. with the varsity to follow at around 7:30 p.m.

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - The Bullitt Central Lady Cougars picked up a key 24th District victory on Friday, but that was the highlight of the weekend as both the boys’ and girls’ teams lost other games.

  • Chargers come up flat in big...

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - Wednesday night’s Bullitt East-Fairdale match-up had lost some of its luster the night before when the Bulldogs lost to Southern, giving the Trojans the number one seed for the upcoming 24th District Tournament.

    Still, that didn’t change the fact that Bullitt East head coach Troy Barr expected his team to play well, especially after they had beaten Manual 66-62 the night before.
