  • NB's Elmore signs to play...

    HEBRON ESTATES - North Bullitt senior D.J. Elmore will get his dream as he will play football at the next level after signing a National Letter of Intent last week to attend Kentucky Wesleyan University in Owensboro.

    Kentucky Wesleyan made the first contact with the Eagle football program according to North Bullitt head coach Brett Newton and they knew what they were looking for. The team already has former North Bullitt player Corey Downing on its roster.

  • BC's Walls, Bennett win...

    LOUISVILLE - The drive to the Kentucky State Wrestling Championships stayed on the main road on Saturday for Bullitt Central standouts Jeremiah Walls and Akeem Bennett as both won titles at the Region 3 meet at the Hoops Sports Academy.

    With the top finishes of Walls and Bennett, Bullitt Central accumulated enough points to finish fifth overall. While the two seniors were the only regional winners, the Cougar program had six wrestlers total advance to the this week’s Kentucky State Championships in Frankfort along with one alternate.

  • UPDATE: BE advances in 6th...

    LOUISVILLE – The Bullitt East Chargers move on to the second round of the 2009 Girls' Sixth Region Basketball Tournament with a 49-33 victory over Pleasure Ridge Park.

    The Lady Chargers (23-8) will play again Friday against the Iroquois/Central winner. Iroquois is the top ranked team in the state at 26-1. Central is 14-12.

    The game will take place at Bellarmine University at 6:30 p.m.

  • Creason's hot-shooting...

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Trailing 17-4 after the first quarter of Monday's opening round game of the Boys' 24th District Tournament, the situation appeared dire for the Bullitt Central Cougars against arch-rival North Bullitt.

    Apparently, it really is darkest before the dawn.

    Connecting on three consecutive three-pointers over the first 2:30 of the second quarter, the Cougars got back in the game, finally pulling even at 23-23 before heading to the locker room with the score knotted at 25-25.

  • Fewer fouls mean more offense...

    HEBRON ESTATES - After the two teams combined to commit 66 fouls in their first meeting of the season three weeks ago, just about anything would have been an improvement when Bullitt East traveled to North Bullitt on Friday.

    Well, for Bullitt East it was a great improvement. The Chargers were in control from the start and blitzed North Bullitt 85-35 in one of the most lopsided scores in the rivalries’ 30-year history.

  • Key threesome scores for Lady...

    HEBRON ESTATES - Who needs practice?

    Apparently not the North Bullitt Lady Eagles.

    In an unusual move, head coach Bill Robinette did not have his team practice for the three days prior to the team taking the court Monday night in the first round of the Girls' 24th District Tournament. The team had played a game on Thursday and then stayed out of the gym.

    This time it worked. North Bullitt put together perhaps its best game of the season, particularly on offense, as they blasted Southern 57-26.

  • East programs end regular season...

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - The final week of the regular season meant four games against top-flight competition for the teams from Bullitt East.

    For coach Troy Barr’s Chargers, it was a pair of regularly scheduled games that presented tough hurdles that it is hoped will prepare the team for this week’s 24th District Tournament at North Bullitt as well as the rest of the post-season road.

  • Bullitt Central splits games...

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - It was a perfect way to end the regular season for one Bullitt Central team but it was another night of frustration for another.

    Bullitt Central entertained the Valley Vikings to close out the regular season and to celebrate Homecoming.

    Bryan Bates’ Lady Cougars jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in an 80-21 victory.

    “It’s a feel good game,” Bates said of his 19-7 squad, which will go into the district tournament as the second seed. “It’s a good game to end the regular season on.”

  • District basketball action...

    HEBRON ESTATES - The five schools in the 24th District will converge on North Bullitt starting on Monday for the Boys’ and Girls’ basketball tournaments.

    This will be the fourth year for this alignment and the first time that the tournaments have been held at North Bullitt.

    The school did make some slight adjustments to the format this year. The event will once again start on Monday night with the two games involving the fourth- and fifth-seeded teams playing each other.

  • Lady Cougars stay hot in regular...

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - The Bullitt Central Lady Cougars appear to be peaking at just the right time as they recorded two more victories last week, pushing their winning streak to four games as they have won nine of their past 11 contests.

    On Tuesday, the maroon and gray had no trouble dispatching Waggener, winning 67-39. It was expected to be a tougher game on Wednesday, but the Lady Cougars pulled away in the second half to beat visiting Doss 67-51.
