  • Seneca pulls away late to upset...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - The Bullitt Central Lady Cougars were flying high coming off a championship in their second holiday tournament, the Lady Wolverine Classic in Frankfort, but since returning home, life has become complicated for coach Bryan Bates’ team.

First, there was a 52-46 loss to Ballard in the Bullitt County Challenge and on Tuesday it got more frustrating as the Lady Cougars were knocked off at home by Seneca 57-42.

  • Player of the Year

Bullitt Central junior Jeremy Bennett was presented his award as the 2008 Bullitt County Player of the Year before a recent basketball game.

With Bennett were Cougar head coach Danny Leasor along with Arch L. Heady and Son representatives Tim Gonterman and Sue Sullivan.

The award was also sponsored by the Awards Center and the Pioneer News.

  • Eagles in LIT Tuesday

HEBRON ESTATES - The North Bullitt Eagles will get their shot at playing in the Louisville Invitational Tournament this week when they take on Trinity at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Bellarmine University’s Knights’ Hall.

  • Lady Cougars win holiday...

FRANKFORT - The Bullitt Central Lady Cougars have often wanted to run and gun under head coach Bryan Bates.

Now, this season, the Lady Cougars are running and gunning and more importantly, winning

Bullitt Central picked up its most impressive tournament title in a number of years on Wednesday, when the maroon and gray capped a strong three day run with a 53-41 victory over an Australian International Team in the championship game of the Lady Wolverine Holiday Classic at Western Hills High School in Frankfort.

  • Another tourney and East again...

MOUNT WASHINGTON - For the second time in as many weeks, the Bullitt East Chargers went on the road for a holiday tournament and returned home with a 2-2 record in 16-team events.

The most recent was the Lloyd Memorial Invitational in northern Kentucky. The tournament started less than a week after the red and gold finished as the runners-up in the consolation bracket of the Canfield Development King of the Bluegrass Holiday Tournament at Fairdale.

  • Lady Eagles continue to improve...

LOUISVILLE - When the season began, not a lot was expected of the North Bullitt Lady Eagles.

Now, a month into the season, the green and gold have a 5-5 record and a third-place trophy from the Lady Dragons' Holiday Invitational at Doss High School. In fact, if the Lady Eagles had shot free throws a little better, they might have gotten a bigger trophy out of the eight-team event.

Still, head coach Bill Robinette is pleased with the team’s performance so far as well as the improvement they have made.

  • King of the Bluegrass a positive...

FAIRDALE - The Bullitt East Chargers didn’t play a late game on the final night of the Canfield Development King of the Bluegrass Holiday Tournament.

The Chargers only played half of their four games in the ‘big’ gym.

There was no trophy on Tuesday when the team finished tournament play in the middle of the afternoon.

  • Football to see some key changes...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - A great local high school football season is now in the rear view mirror and what a season it was.

Obviously, Bullitt East reaching the Class 4-A state championship game heads the list of accomplishments, but perhaps just as important is the fact that for the first time in at least 15 years, all three Bullitt County football programs posted winning records.

Yes, there have been seasons where all three have been below .500, but marks of 9-6, 8-3 and 8-5 this fall might just be the best combined mark in Bullitt County football history.

  • Late rally gives the Lady Eagles...

CARROLLTON - You can take the North Bullitt Lady Eagles out of the Eighth Region, but you can’t take the Eighth Region out of the Lady Eagles.

When veteran North Bullitt head coach Bill Robinette went looking for a holiday tournament for his team this season, he found one with a lot of familiar faces when he entered the North American Stainless Basketball Classic at Carroll County High School. Five of the eight teams in the event are former Eighth Region foes before North Bullitt was shifted to the Sixth Region three years ago.
