    **Both the Bullitt Central Cougars and the North Bullitt Eagles will take part in the National Guard Holiday Classic at LaRue County High School. In the first round, North Bullitt will take on Meade County at 4 p.m. Bullitt Central will then take the court in the 7 p.m. contest against LaRue County.

  • Chargers get early district jump...

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - There really are no make or break games in December for area basketball teams, but the Bullitt East Chargers picked up a big win on Friday as they traveled into Jefferson County and rolled the Southern Trojans 61-46.

    The game was big because Southern (3-2) already has a victory this season over Fairdale, the defending 24th District champions. With the win, Bullitt East is now the only undefeated team in the district with a 2-0 mark.

  • Lady Cougars end losing Fairdale...

    FAIRDALE - The Bullitt Central Lady Cougars picked up a key win in the 24th District on Tuesday as they traveled into Jefferson County and beat Fairdale 55-46.

    The win was the first for the Lady Cougars over their district rivals since Fairdale and Bullitt Central moved into the 24th District four years ago. Fairdale has won all three district titles since realignment, once beating Bullitt Central in the final.

  • East ready for another deep...

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - The Bullitt East Chargers will step back into the big time on Thursday when they open play in the Canfield Development King of the Bluegrass Holiday Tournament at Fairdale High School.

    This will be the second trip in the last four years for the Chargers. The team competed in the 2004 event, going 3-1 and finishing third. That was the same season that coach Troy Barr’s team advanced to the Kentucky State Basketball Tournament by winning the Eighth Region title.

  • Butler's hot shooting sinks...

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - The 2007-08 Girls’ Kentucky State Basketball Champion Butler Bearettes visited Bullitt East on Wednesday and coach Eddy Wilson’s team showed that they will be a force again as they manhandled the Lady Chargers 63-47 in the first big game in the Sixth Region this season.

    The Bearettes shot 78 percent in the first half, racing out to a 45-25 advantage by halftime and then never looking back en route to their third straight win to open this season.

  • Lady Eagles rally past Southern...

    HEBRON ESTATES - It wasn’t pretty, but the North Bullitt Lady Eagles picked up an important 24th District win on Tuesday as they pulled away from visiting Southern over the final three minutes to secure a 52-41 victory.

    In fact, the green and gold trailed by a point midway through the fourth quarter before rallying for their second win of the season.

    “It was pretty sloppy,” North Bullitt head coach Bill Robinette said of a game in which his team turned the ball over 37 times. “We were fortunate.

  • Lady Chargers ready to make a...

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - By the end of February, the Bullitt East Lady Chargers have big plans of competing with state powers Iroquois and Butler.

    However, at the end of November, long-time head coach Chris Stallings is just hoping to get enough players healthy for a competitive intra-squad scrimmage.

    While the Lady Chargers have certainly not lost sight of the big picture, they have been slowed somewhat at the start of this season by a rash of injuries and illnesses.

    HEBRON ESTATES - Lots of high school basketball coaches at one time or another have categorized their upcoming season as a ‘rebuilding’ campaign.

    For North Bullitt head coach Bill Robinette, the term ‘rebuilding’ might not exactly fit this winter. The term ‘ultra-rebuilding’ might need to be coined for what the Lady Eagles are doing for the 2008-09 season.

    HEBRON ESTATES - The success of the North Bullitt football team this fall has put the basketball team a little behind schedule as the roundball Eagles start the season this week.

    That is not a bad thing for Eagle head coach Lee Barger as he wants to see all the teams at the school have success. But with six possible varsity players still playing football, it has cost the green and gold some valuable preparation time.

    SHEPHERDSVILLE -- ‘Practice hard and you get to play in the next game.’

    Lots of high school basketball coaches give that statement lip service every season. For Bullitt Central head coach Joe Pat Lee, that credo will have extra meaning this winter.

    After a season in which the Cougars had high expectations, but finished with a frustrating 8-19 mark that included a first round loss in the 24th District Tournament, Lee and his team have subdued expectations this season after losing pretty much every starter off last season’s team.
