  • Lady Cougars come up just short

LOUISVILLE - Bullitt Central Lady Cougar head coach Bryan Bates saw a little bit of everything from his team last week in the Doss Lady Dragon Holiday Classic.

There was the good, the bad and the ugly, as well as some beauty as the maroon and gray reached the championship game before falling to Breckinridge County 45-42.

The Lady Cougars had the ball at the end of the game, but could not get off a shot in the last 13 seconds.

  • Two OTs, two wins for East; Lady...

MOUNT WASHINGTON - Two games, two overtimes, two victories made for a wild and wonderful weekend for the Bullitt East Chargers as the youthful team continued to make great strides early in the season.

On Friday, coach Troy Barr’s team picked up the only victory that really counts in December as they turned back Southern 65-63 in overtime. The Southern game is the only one this month that will be used in the standings that will decided the district seeding for the post-season tournament in late February.

  • Aubrey’s career night...

HEBRON ESTATES - A week after the team’s three senior starters combined for 65 points in a loss to Fairdale, North Bullitt’s high-scoring trio put 53 points on the board on Friday in an easier than expected 74-57 victory at home over arch-rival Bullitt Central.

Leading the way for the Eagles was senior wing player Kenton Aubrey who had the best game of his career with a game-high 30 points. The Eagles also got 14 points from senior James Whitfill and nine points from Travis Ridley.

Junior Tony Majors added to the offense with 10 points.

  • Cold shooting continues to...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - The Bullitt Central Cougars continued to try and find their offense on Tuesday, but it wasn’t to be as the Cougars dropped a key 24th District contest to Southern 57-45.

The maroon and gray did a lot of good things against the Trojans, but scoring was not one of those things. Bullitt Central made just 17 of 54 shots while converting just half of their 12 shots at the free throw line.

“That won’t win many games,” Cougar head coach Joe Pat Lee lamented after the game.

  • BE’s defense trumps...

LOUISVILLE - On a night where defense trumped offense, the Bullitt East Lady Chargers held all the high cards in the early season Sixth Region Showdown on Tuesday with Butler.

In the battle between the top two teams in the pre-season coaches’ poll in the region, as well as two of the top 25 teams in the state, Bullitt East won with a gutsy defensive performance. The Lady Chargers won on a night where they shot just 27 percent from the field and 42 percent from the free throw line because they did just about everything else well to pull out the 42-35 victory.

  • Fast start is more than enough...

HEBRON ESTATES - Showing signs of being the team they thought they could be when the season began, the Bullitt Central Lady Cougars raced out to an early advantage and were never challenged on Friday against arch-rival North Bullitt.

Bullitt Central won 77-41 for its second straight victory after losing three in a row.

  • OT works just fine for Lady...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - It took an overtime to do it, but the Bullitt Central Lady Cougars finally picked up the one win they had to have in December as they slipped past visiting Southern 64-56 on Tuesday.

The Lady Trojans are a vastly improved team over the past few seasons and they also much more athletic. They gave Bullitt Central fits at times on Tuesday and actually had a chance to win at the end of regulation time only to have a lane violation erase a made free throw with :12.3 to play.

  • Ridley’s 33 not enough...

HEBRON ESTATES - The North Bullitt Eagles got 65 points from three seniors, but it wasn’t enough on Friday as Fairdale picked up a key 24th District victory with a 79-71 decision over the green and gold.

It was a sterling effort for the Eagles, especially in the fourth quarter as they scored 30 points and cut a double-digit margin down to six points with three minutes to play.

  • Locals part of Coaches&rsquo...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - Some local players and coaches will be back on the football field this Saturday for the Greater Louisville Football Coaches’ Association East-West All-Star game at Southern High School starting at 2 p.m.

Bullitt Central’s coaching staff will be heading up the West team. Head coach Danny Leasor is taking part in the organization of the team, but he has to leave before the game and Cougar Associate Head Coach Mike Gossett will run the show.

  • Bumpy starts continue for Cougar...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - When the season began, Bullitt Central boys’ head coach Joe Pat Lee knew one thing for certain about his team - that when they shot well they could be highly competitive and that when they didn’t shoot it consistently that there would be some long nights.
