  • BE home for first playoff contest

MOUNT WASHINGTON - A few weeks ago, Bullitt East coach Doug Preston told his players they were on the verge of being a very good football team.

That came after a tough road loss to Marion County, the team’s only district loss in Preston’s two years at the helm.

Last week against North Bullitt, Preston told the players they were getting even closer.

On Friday night, homecoming night was the game when he felt the team began to surge in a tough 10-0 victory over LaRue County.

  • THE GAME: 34th meeting in...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - The Game, the oldest football rivalry in Bullitt County will be renewed for the 34th consecutive year on Friday when the North Bullitt Eagles invade George Valentine Field to take on the Bullitt Central Cougars.

The two teams have been on pretty much opposite courses this season as the Cougars are 7-2 and have already secured a post-season play-off berth at home for the first time in 30 years.

  • North’s Goeings just...

LOUISVILLE - Over the past several weeks, North Bullitt boys’ golf coach John Hunt has been telling anyone who would listen that his top two players - Brandon Goeings and Matt Bloom - were the verge of knocking down some low scores.

MOUNT WASHINGTON - Two Bullitt East-North Bullitt soccer rivalries will be contested at the same time on Sunday in the opening round of the Ninth District Tournaments.

At Bullitt East, the boys’ tournament will be played with the Chargers and Eagles squaring-off on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. That first-round game in the seven-team event will be contested on the soccer field. The semi-finals and finals later in the week will be played on the football field.

  • East and LaRue battle for home...

MOUNT WASHINGTON - A home play-off game will be on the line on Friday when the Bullitt East Chargers return home to take on LaRue County in a key Class 4-A showdown.

The post-season scenario is simple. The winner of this game will finish second (behind Marion County) in the district and will host a game in the first round of the play-offs on Friday, Nov. 6. The loser will finish third in the district and will have to go on the road for all of the play-offs.

This will also be Homecoming Week at Bullitt East.

  • North faces a ‘pride...

HEBRON ESTATES - The North Bullitt Eagles will try to stop one of the hottest teams in the area on Friday when they travel into central Kentucky to battle district rival Marion County.

The Knights have won six straight games including a 33-7 victory over LaRue County last week.

This game will have no affect on the post-season bracketing for either team. Marion County has already wrapped up the number one seed for Class 4-A, District 4 with a 2-0 mark while at 0-2 North Bullitt will go on the road in November as the number four seeds.

  • 27th District volleyball starts...

MOUNT WASHINGTON - The Bullitt East Lady Chargers will try for a sixth straight 27th District volleyball title this week in an event they will host on Monday and Tuesday of this week.

Coach Michelle Gajdik’s team has the number one seed for this week’s event after going through the regular season undefeated at 6-0 against their district rivals.

Bullitt East will open play at 6 p.m. on Monday against North Bullitt in a rematch of last year’s championship contest. The Lady Chargers have twice defeated North Bullitt in straight games this year.

  • Bullitt East falls just short,...

LEBANON - To have a road game go down to the final play against a team ranked in the top 10 in the state may have been the best Bullitt East coach Doug Preston could have hoped for on Saturday afternoon.

But as a last-minute Matthew Bowles pass into the end zone fell to the ground, Preston could not help but be disappointed.

However, the tone was much different just minutes later. His upbeat post-game talk centered on how close the team had come to pulling off a major victory.
