    MOUNT WASHINGTON - The dream became reality on Wednesday for Bullitt East baseball standout Brandon Alphin when he put his name on the dotted line to play next season for the University of Louisville.

    Alphin had committed to the Cardinals back in June during Bullitt East’s big post-season run that saw the red and gold reach the semi-finals of the State Baseball Tournament.

    Alphin becomes the first Bullitt County baseball player to ever sign a Division I scholarship.

    LOUISVILLE - The Bullitt East Chargers needed a nearly flawless performance on Saturday in the Class 2-A, Region 3 Cross-Country Championships at McNeely Lake Park in southern Jefferson County.

    They got it.

    ZONETON -- The Bernheim Lady Bruins withstand a late rally and despite scoring just two points in the fourth quarter, they beat the Zoneton Lady Timberwolves 21-19 in the ‘B’ Division Championship of the Girls’ Bullitt County Middle School Tournament.

    The teams had split their two regular season meetings so both teams knew that this would be a tough battle.

  • Numbers finally catch up with...

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - The numbers game finally caught up with the Bullitt East Chargers.

    With what coach Doug Preston called the worst season of major injuries he’s seen, Bullitt East fell 39-22 to the Fairdale Bulldogs in the first round of the Class 4 playoffs.

    The Chargers, who fell in the state championship game last year, ended with season with a 4-7 record.

    “They played hard,” Preston said of his team. “It just caught up with us.”

    LOUISVILLE - The high school cross-country season is reaching its stride as on Saturday the three Bullitt County programs all took part in the DeSales Invitational at McNeely Lake Park in southern Jefferson County.

    The meet served as the All-Bullitt County Championships and for the first time in recent memory, each of the three boys’ and girls’ programs fielded full teams.

        LOUISVILLE - A coach wants his team to play its best ball at the end of the season in the post-season.

        North Bullitt football coach Brett Newton got his wish on Friday night - at least for a half.

        But in the end, it was the top-seeded Western Warriors who would advance to a Class 4 meeting on Friday with the Fairdale Bulldogs.

        Avenging a loss last season to the Eagles, Western overcame an early 8-0 deficit to defeat North Bullitt 24-8.

  • Magical season ends for Cougars

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - There is never a good time to play a bad football game.

    On Friday, the Bullitt Central Cougars picked the worst possible time to lay the proverbial ‘egg’ - the first round of the Class 5-A play-offs. Unable to do anything right, the second-seeded Cougars dropped a 63-13 decision at home to third-seeded Jeffersontown.

    The setback ended the season for the Cougars with an 8-3 record. It was the second straight season that Bullitt Central has posted that final number.

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - In a battle between the two best teams in the league all season at the ‘B’ Division level, the Overdale Chiefs pulled out a stunning reversal of the regular season meeting as they beat the Maryville Patriots 28-19.

  • Quick start fuels Overdale past...

    SHEPHERDSVILLE -- If in doubt give the ball to number 8.

    That philosophy worked just fine for the Overdale Chiefs on Saturday as the team used a quick start to beat the Maryville Patriots 12-8 in the championship game of the PeeWee Division.

    Number 8 for the Chiefs is Mario Convenuto and he rushed for 118 yards and scored both of the touchdowns for Overdale. He also led the team with nine tackles.
