  • Chargers score on first play,...

LOUISVILLE - For one play Friday night the Bullitt East Chargers were in control.

Unfortunately, the rest of the game belonged to the DeSales Colts as the Class 2-A power won the battles up front and rolled to a 45-30 victory. It was the second time in as many years that the Colts got the best of the Chargers at Manual Stadium.

DeSales finished with 415 yards of total offense and 286 of those yards came on the ground including 161 yards by senior Andrew Beeler.

  • Youth football teams seek a...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - It might seem like the earliest start in the league's history, but as President Joe Downs of the Greater Bullitt County Youth Football League pointed out, it is the same weekend that the league started a year ago, just a day earlier.

That means that the largest independent sports league in Bullitt County will begin play for the 2009 season with a full slate of games this weekend.

  • Eagles will be looking in a...

HEBRON ESTATES - The North Bullitt Eagles may feel like they are looking in a mirror on Friday when they line-up to battle Woodford County.

  • BC's defense steps up and...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - A pair of goal-line stands midway through the second half saved the Bullitt Central Cougars on Friday as they managed to hang on to beat former district rival Southern 21-14.

All of the points in the game were scored in the first half.

The victory was the second in a row for the Cougars heading into this Friday’s showdown with county rival Bullitt East in Mount Washington. Still, it was the second week in a row where the defense had to pull the decision out of the fire as the offense struggled with consistency.

  • Newton treating first six games...

HEBRON ESTATES - After one of the most successful runs in the program’s history, the North Bullitt Eagles are going to have to step back and rebuild under veteran head coach Brett Newton.

The past three seasons have produced winning records and two consecutive trips to the Class 4-A regional finals, but the Eagles have suffered heavy graduation losses each of the past two seasons. It will just take some time to refill the coffers.

  • Ray Cook Rolls in LOLMDS 9th...

BARDSTOWN - The racing superstars of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series made Bluegrass Speedway in Bardstown, KY home on Saturday evening and Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC would lead all 60 laps and grab a $10,000 payday in route to winning the 9th Annual Bluegrass Classic in front of the cameras of SPEED TV. Other feature winners for the evening included Shane Lafollette of Hodgenville, KY in Street Stocks and Robbie Settles of Bardstown, KY in WBRT 1320-AM Sportsman.

  • Salem Speedway Family Fun Night...

SALEM, Ind. – The quest for 2009 Salem Speedway track championships continues on Saturday, Sept. 12th, as the Lucas Oil Super Stocks and Dave & Deb’s Winner’s Circle Street Stocks return to the super-fast, half-mile oval for the First Harrison Bank Family Fun Night, presented by The Salem Leader.

Championships are still up for grabs in both Salem divisions, as just 13 points separate the top three drivers in the Super Stock division and a 16 point differential exists between first and third place in the Street Stock standings.

  • One game under belt helps Eagles...

HEBRON ESTATES - One could see the relief on Dalton Hadley’s face Friday evening.

After a rough night in his first varsity start and a tough week at school following the death of a former North Bullitt football and tract standout, Hadley finally had a reason to relax.

With the junior signal caller feeling much more relaxed in his second varsity start, North Bullitt evened its mark at 1-1 on the year with a 21-7 victory over South Oldham.

It didn’t hurt that sometimes bad things seem to follow teams that have lost their last 18 games.

  • The war up front could decide...

MOUNT WASHINGTON - A year after the rivalry was shocked back to life with a stunning 30-27 victory by the Cougars, Bullitt Central and Bullitt East will clash again on Friday in the 20th renewal of The War.

After ten straight Bullitt East victories, the county battle was starting to take itself hostage. Now, with Bullitt Central’s win a year ago, there is a lot of ‘talk’ and ‘chatter’ about the rivalry again.

In fact, if the weather holds on Friday, the crowd could be one of the largest to ever watch a sporting event in Bullitt County.
