  • To The BIG SHOW - BE heads to...

HODGENVILLE - Not storms, nor cold bats, nor even a graduation could stop the Bullitt East Chargers from winning the Section III Baseball Tournament last week at LaRue County High School.

The final piece of the puzzle came on Saturday night when the red and gold rode the pitching arm of Brandon Alphin to the title in the best-of-three series against Elizabethtown, winning the third game 6-0. The junior allowed only three hits and only one Panther runner reached third base.

  • Big Blast - Whitmer's HR...

LOUISVILLE - Dreams really do come true.

A thousand times before, Bullitt East junior Josh Whitmer had dreamed about stepping to the plate at the end of a big game. Each of those times, the big left-handed hitter came through in the clutch.

On Thursday, it was the real deal. Bottom of the ninth, two outs and the game tied at 6-6 in the championship game of the Sixth Region Tournament. No problem.

  • NB's Cissell to play in...

HEBRON ESTATES - Former North Bullitt football standout Dalton Cissell will play on Friday in the Kentucky East-West All-Star game at L.T. Smith Stadium at Western Kentucky University.

There was some confusion back in March when the original rosters were announced. Cissell, the ninth-leading rusher in Kentucky history, was not part of the team. That oversight was corrected and Cissell will wear number 21 on Friday in his final high school football game before heading to the University of Louisville as a preferred walk-on.

  • Jones' three-run blast...

HODGENVILLE - When it rains it pours.

The Bullitt East Chargers haven’t really been an all or none team this spring, but that is the way it worked out on Friday as the red and gold scored eight times in the bottom of the sixth inning to beat Elizabethtown 8-4 in the second game of the best-of-three Section III event at LaRue County High School.

Through the first 12 innings of the tournament, Bullitt East had managed one run and had seen very little success against Panther pitching.

  • Key plays go against Chargers in...

HODGENVILLE - After allowing six runs, all with two outs, the Bullitt East Chargers find themselves behind the eight ball in the Section 3 Semi-State Tournament against Elizabethtown.

In a game of key hits, it was the Panthers that made all the right moves as they rolled to a 6-1 decision in the best-of-three series at LaRue County High School. The two teams will meet again on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the second game.

  • Alphin's arm muzzles Colts...

LOUISVILLE - Bullitt East junior Brandon Alphin had the arm and that was more than enough for the Chargers on Wednesday as they cruised past DeSales 6-1 in the semi-finals of the Sixth Region Baseball Tournament at the University of Louisville’s Jim Patterson Stadium.

Alphin had some of his best stuff of the season as he was perfect through the first four innings against the 22nd District champions. He did walk three batters in the fifth inning to allow the one run to score, but the Colts’ only two hits in the game came in the sixth inning.

  • KENTUCKY STATE BASEBALL...

LEXINGTON - The Bullitt East Chargers lose in the semi-finals of the 2009 Forcht Bank/Kentucky State Baseball Tournament 6-5 to Owensboro.

The Chargers end their memorable season with a 31-9 overall record.

Owensboro, despite a 14-15 record, advance to Saturday' state finals versus Lexington Catholic at Aplebee's Park in Lexington.

  • Bluegrass Speedway racing...

Bluegrass Speedway Returns to Action With 8th Annual June Jam June 13

Bluegrass Speedway track promoters David and Anita Ferrell will return with “Saturday Night Showtime” after a couple of weeks off as the 8th Annual June Jam is contested on Saturday June 13.

The Saturday June 13 program will be the 8th Annual June Jam, featuring the O’Reilly Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series Super Late Models in a 30 lap, $3,000 to win A-Main event.

  • BE's Hoffman signs for...

MOUNT WASHINGTON -- Bullitt East senior second baseman Jimmy Hoffman found just the perfect fit recently when he signed to play his college ball at St. Catharine College in Springfield, Kentucky.

Hoffman can play the game that he loves while at the same time being close enough to home for family and friends to watch many of his games.

“The coaches were really nice and they have a good program,” Hoffman said last week after signing all the official papers to attend the NAIA school. “Their record is good and it’s close to home.”

  • Eagles get single run needed to...

FAIRDALE - It was the game everyone expected.

North Bullitt ace Matt Wagner versus Southern ace Reggie Young.

In a game in which one run might make the difference, the North Bullitt Eagles got that single run across the plate Wednesday to win 1-0 over the Trojans in the semifinals of the 24th District baseball tournament at Fairdale High School.

While Wagner and Young were mowing down batters, it was junior Aric Hester who came up with the big hit for the Eagles.
