  • No lull this time for BE netters

MOUNT WASHINGTON - The Bullitt East Lady Chargers rallied from a late deficit in the second game to beat North Bullitt 25-18, 25-22 in volleyball action on Thursday.

The win was the second this season for Bullitt East over their county rivals. The Lady Chargers remained undefeated in 27th District play with matches against Spencer County and Bullitt Central still to be played.

Bullitt East won the first match of the season 25-15, 25-15 so this more competitive match left both coaches with some bright spots.

  • Special dove shoot

The National Wild Turkey Federation’s Bernheim Chapter sponsored a special dove shoot on Saturday at the Maraman Farm off Deatsville Road.

Thirty disabled hunters from Bullitt County were able to go dove hunting thanks to the local NWTF chapter.

The hunters also go to Bernehim Forest each fall.

  • Four a half is plenty for BE...

MOUNT WASHINGTON - Scoring four times in the first half and then duplicating that feat after halftime, the Bullitt East Chargers rolled to an easy 8-0 victory over Bullitt Central last Tuesday.

The game capped a busy weekend for the red and gold as they had played four games the previous weekend in a tournament at Barren County. The Chargers won all four of those games and after beating Bullitt Central stood at 10-2 for the season.

  • 19th annual Six Sigma...

SALEM, Ind. ee" Fall foliage, stock cars and the high banks of Salem Speedway. That historic combination continues on Saturday, Oct. 3, as the Lucas Oil Super Stocks and Dave & Deb’s Winner’s Circle Street Stocks converge on the super-fast, half-mile oval for the 19th annual Six Sigma Championship Night.

Championship Night marks the final points race of the season for both Salem Speedway divisions.

  • One win does not a rivalry make...

MOUNT WASHINGTON - Without a doubt, one win does not a rivalry make.

That is true of any rivalry and very true of The War.

Still, that said, Bullitt Central’s 30-27 victory a year ago in Shepherdsville sure has breathed new life into what was a morbid series for a handful of years. Remember, Bullitt East had won ten games in a row in The War and in the four meetings previous to Bullitt Central’s win, the Chargers had outscored the Cougars 169-19.

  • Regional golf this week

The first post-season for the fall sports teams will be this week as golf enters regional play for both the boys’ and the girls’ programs. Both of those events will be held at Shawnee Golf Course in west Louisville.

Shawnee Golf Course is a par-70 course that is very flat. Scores are expected to be relatively low.

First up will be the boys’ Region 3 tournament which will be contested on Monday. This will be an 18-hole event starting at 8:30 a.m.

  • Big game for Cougar fortunes

SHEPHERDSVILLE - The most important game to date in Bullitt Central’s football rejuvenation will come this Friday as the maroon and gray play host to district rival Doss in a key game for both teams.

Doss is actually the defending district champions from a year ago before Bullitt Central dropped down to this district in Class 5-A. As Cougar head coach Danny Leasor is quick to point out, the winner of this game will be assured of hosting at least the first-round play-off game in the post-season.

  • KISS! It worked wonders for BC...

MOUNT WASHINGTON - During his first stint as the Bullitt Central football coach some 25 years ago, one of Danny Leasor’s favorite acronyms was KISS - which stands for ‘Keep It Simple Stupid.’

It took the Cougar coach half a game on Friday to remember that philosophy.

When Bullitt Central went KISS in The War, the maroon and gray found a lot of success.

  • Rain goes away, but no decision...

HEBRON ESTATES - The rain cleared out after a 50-minute delay, but nothing was decided on the field as the North Bullitt Lady Eagles and the Bullitt East Lady Chargers battled to a 1-1 tie in the only regular season meeting this season between the two rivals.

At 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the two teams took the field, but just before the opening whistle, a crack of thunder sent both teams back to their benches. Lightning a few moments later sent them to the gym at North Bullitt where the teams sat and waited for 40 minutes.
