HEBRON ESTATES - On Friday evening, Robert Dale Reynolds was at the North Bullitt football game watching his alma mater compete against Doss in the season opener.

Less than 12 hours later, he lost his life in a single-vehicle accident on Indiana 62 in Charlestown.

Better known as R.D., Reynolds was pronounced dead Saturday afternoon at University Hospital from injuries suffered earlier that day.

Two friends remain in serious condition.

  • THE WAR: Second half power...

MOUNT WASHINGTON - Like two great heavyweights, Bullitt Central and Bullitt East kept throwing haymakers at each other on Friday in the 20th renewal of The War.

In the end, a pair of long scoring drives in the second half proved to be the difference as the Cougars pulled out a 20-14 victory in a renewed rivalry that has suddenly sprung to the forefront of local football.

  • East puts handcuffs on foes in...

HEBRON ESTATES - The Bullitt East Chargers made it two-for-two in Bullitt Cup Soccer titles Saturday as they swept their county rivals in the early season event.

The Charges got the ball rolling on Friday when they defeated North Bullitt 6-0 behind the four goals of senior Rob Daugherty. After the Eagles defeated Bullitt Central 3-1 on Saturday morning, Bullitt East wrapped up the title with a 9-0 decision over Bullitt Central.

  • Ridley ‘picks up&...

ST. MATTHEWS - The night didn’t start out well for senior Travis Ridley.

His North Bullitt Eagles were driving the ball down the field against the host Waggener Wildcats.

After Ryan Collins got the ball to the 1-yard line, Ridley was poised to score the first touchdown of the game.

As he tried to stretch the ball over the goal line, it was knocked loose and Waggener recovered.

But the two-way starter more than made up for the mistake as North Bullitt defeated Waggener 23-9 on Friday night.

  • A black night for Charger...

SHELBYVILLE - Everything that could go wrong, did go wrong on Friday night for the Bullitt East Chargers as they were bounced by a resurgent Shelby County team 63-15.

In fact, things were going badly for the Chargers long before they arrived in Shelbyville on Friday. A team already hampered by injuries was short four more key starters for a variety of reasons. Three of the four players were dressed and on the sideline but did not play including the team’s two leading running backs and two top receivers..

BARDSTOWN - Bluegrass Speedway track promoters David and Anita Ferrell will present the final edition of “Saturday Night Showtime” for 2009 this Saturday evening September 26, with the WBRT 1320-AM Sportsman being highlighted in a $400 to win event.

  • Cougars call it an early night...

LOUISVILLE - The Bullitt Central Cougars tried and tried and tried some more on Friday night, but no matter how hard they tried, they couldn’t win by less than 64-6 against woefully outmatched Atherton.

If there was a pre-determined victory in high school football this season, this was it. Atherton was winless this fall against relatively weak foes. The Rebels dressed just 25 players for this game and some of those were freshmen.

The Cougars moved to 4-0 and face another winless team, Waggener, this Friday in another trip into Jefferson County.

  • Same team, better results for...

MOUNT WASHINGTON - The Bullitt East Chargers will go from the frying pan into the fire on Friday as the tough early season slate for the red and gold takes them to Shelbyville to take on Shelby County.

While the two schools have scrimmaged at times in the past in football and often play each other in other sports, this will be the first meeting between the two schools on the football field.
