SHEPHERDSVILLE - After four ‘practice’ games, the Bullitt Central Cougars will start playing for keeps this week when they travel into Louisville to take on district rival Waggener.

There was a time in the late 90s when Waggener and Bullitt Central were district rivals, but that has not been the case in recent years. Now, this is the first district game for both teams after Bullitt Central dropped down to Class 5-A for this season and created the five-team district.

MOUNT WASHINGTON - Coming off the team’s worst performance of the season, Bullitt East has a chance to gain some much needed momentum on Friday as the team comes home to play Eastern.

The game is important for gaining some confidence as the Chargers have an ‘open’ date next week on the schedule before playing three straight district games.

HEBRON ESTATES - The North Bullitt Eagles will return home on Friday and will be celebrating homecoming as they play host to Lexington Tates Creek High School.

This will be the first every meeting between the two schools in football. North Bullitt has played Lexington schools in the past including Lafayette last season. Already this season, Lafayette beat Tates Creek 34-19 so the two teams this Friday should be on a level plane.

Two friends remain in serious condition.

Cory B. Flint, 26, of Madison, Ind., and Brent Hamilton, 18, of Shepherdsville, were also taken to University Hospital.

  • THE WAR: Second half power...

MOUNT WASHINGTON - Like two great heavyweights, Bullitt Central and Bullitt East kept throwing haymakers at each other on Friday in the 20th renewal of The War.

  • East puts handcuffs on foes in...

HEBRON ESTATES - The Bullitt East Chargers made it two-for-two in Bullitt Cup Soccer titles Saturday as they swept their county rivals in the early season event.

The Charges got the ball rolling on Friday when they defeated North Bullitt 6-0 behind the four goals of senior Rob Daugherty. After the Eagles defeated Bullitt Central 3-1 on Saturday morning, Bullitt East wrapped up the title with a 9-0 decision over Bullitt Central.

  • Ridley ‘picks up&...

ST. MATTHEWS - The night didn’t start out well for senior Travis Ridley.

His North Bullitt Eagles were driving the ball down the field against the host Waggener Wildcats.

After Ryan Collins got the ball to the 1-yard line, Ridley was poised to score the first touchdown of the game.

As he tried to stretch the ball over the goal line, it was knocked loose and Waggener recovered.

But the two-way starter more than made up for the mistake as North Bullitt defeated Waggener 23-9 on Friday night.

  • A black night for Charger...

SHELBYVILLE - Everything that could go wrong, did go wrong on Friday night for the Bullitt East Chargers as they were bounced by a resurgent Shelby County team 63-15.

In fact, things were going badly for the Chargers long before they arrived in Shelbyville on Friday. A team already hampered by injuries was short four more key starters for a variety of reasons. Three of the four players were dressed and on the sideline but did not play including the team’s two leading running backs and two top receivers..
