  • District basketball action...

HEBRON ESTATES - The five schools in the 24th District will converge on North Bullitt starting on Monday for the Boys’ and Girls’ basketball tournaments.

This will be the fourth year for this alignment and the first time that the tournaments have been held at North Bullitt.

The school did make some slight adjustments to the format this year. The event will once again start on Monday night with the two games involving the fourth- and fifth-seeded teams playing each other.

  • Lady Cougars stay hot in regular...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - The Bullitt Central Lady Cougars appear to be peaking at just the right time as they recorded two more victories last week, pushing their winning streak to four games as they have won nine of their past 11 contests.

On Tuesday, the maroon and gray had no trouble dispatching Waggener, winning 67-39. It was expected to be a tougher game on Wednesday, but the Lady Cougars pulled away in the second half to beat visiting Doss 67-51.

  • 24th DISTRICT BASKETBALL...

HEBRON ESTATES -- The Bullitt East Lady Chargers won the 24th District Baskettball Tournament Friday with a 58-41 win over Fairdale at North Bullitt.

Bullitt East (22-8) advances to next week's 6th Region Tournament.

See Monday's edition of The Pioneer News and www.pioneernews.net for full stories on both the girls' and boy's tournament games.

HEBRON ESTATES – The top seeds advanced to the 24th District Boys' finals.

  • Lady Chargers put the clamps on...

HEBRON ESTATES - Defense was the name of the game on Friday for the Bullitt East Lady Chargers as they made an unplanned trip to North Bullitt and beat the Lady Eagles 56-16.

The contest was supposed to be played in Mount Washington and be homecoming for the Lady Chargers. Instead, work on some damage to the roof of the Bullitt East gym forced a quick move to North Bullitt. The move was not known until Friday morning.

That didn’t seem to bother coach Chris Stallings’ team. Bullitt East was up 13-1 after one quarter and were never challenged.

  • Recent successes seem so long-...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - One victory for the North Bullitt Eagles seemed like a month ago early last week as the green and gold dropped two more games, leaving head coach Lee Barger frustrated.

It was just the previous Friday night that the Eagles beat Southern, the number one seed for the upcoming 24th District Tournament. Since that night, North Bullitt lost three straight games in four days, erasing all the positive thoughts from that earlier outcome.

  • East squads stay hot with two...

MOUNT WASHINGTON - Two nights equaled two wins for the Bullitt East basketball programs over Holy Cross.

On Monday, it was the Lady Chargers that traveled into Jefferson County and beat the Lady Cougars 53-49 in a game that was closer than many thought it would be.

A night later, Holy Cross brought their boys’ team to Mount Washington and they were treated rudely on the court as Bullitt East jumped on top early and never looked back as they rolled to an 89-59 victory.

  • Lady Eagles are pressed to death...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - A poor start and a horrific finish made it a long night for the North Lady Eagles and a large homecoming crowd.

Taking on Sixth Region rival Presentation, the Lady Eagles fell behind 8-0 after giving up six points in the first 30 seconds of the game. After rallying to within 12-11, North Bullitt scored just three points in the second quarter and fell behind 28-14. That was more than the green and gold could overcome in a 54-25 setback.

  • Central splits pair at North...

GOSHEN - The Bullitt Central Lady Cougars stayed hot on Friday as they hit the road and came away with a 56-48 victory over former Eighth Region rival North Oldham.

Lady Cougar senior Lindsay Hester continued to shoot well from beyond the arc as she canned four three-pointers en route to scoring 24 points.

Bullitt Central also got 11 points from junior Qualeatha Bennett.

  • Schedule set for district tourney

HEBRON ESTATES – The five teams in the 24th District met on Sunday and came up with a slightly revamped schedule for next week’s basketball tournament at North Bullitt.

The two first-round games will still be played on Monday, but there will be no games played on Tuesday.

After the off-day, the girls’ semi-finals will be played. The boys’ semi-finals will then be played on Thursday.

Games each of those nights will be at 6 p.m. and 7:45 p.m.

  • Cougars finally get elusive...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - Bullitt Central’s running and gunning high-octane offense finally paid dividends last Monday as the Cougars put together a strong performance to beat Whitefield Academy 85-47.

The contest was a late addition to the Bullitt Central schedule as many teams in the area hustled to find games over the final two weeks of the regular season because of the week lost to the ice and snow during the first week of February.
