  • U-12 Blue Lick All-Stars head to...

LOUISVILLE - Sometimes championships are won and lost in the early rounds of a tournament.

And sometimes, the play of a team throughout the tournament will earn the squad a spot in the state tournament.

Both scenarios played a part in the Blue Lick All-Stars earning a berth in the state tournament to be contested this week at Okolona.

After an easy victory over Fairdale in the opener, Blue Lick played the host Prairie Village team in the winner’s bracket final on Friday evening. It was an epic contest as the visitors won 6-5 in eight innings.

FERN CREEK - Heading into last week’s Under-10 Cal Ripken District 2 Tournament hosted by Fern Creek, Mount Washington head coach Norm Terry had a few questions about his team.

By Saturday night, all of those questions had been answered in a very positive way.

Mount Washington won the four-team tournament going away, beating Fern Creek 17-5 in the championship game. That win qualified the team for this week’s East Kentucky State Tournament in Lexington.

  • Young MW teams to state

MOUNT WASHINGTON - A pair of younger Mount Washington All-Star teams reached their district finals on Saturday, but lost. Still, both teams played well enough to advance to East Kentucky State Tournaments this week.

The Under-8 Mount Washington All-Star team beat Fern Creek Black 7-6 in the loser’s bracket final, but then dropped a tough 8-6 decision to Fern Creek Orange in the championship game on Saturday night.

Mount Washington was hosting that event.

  • 'Farner Dreams' - What...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - In a perfect world, the ‘Farner Dreams’ would already be a reality.

Unfortunately, this is far from a perfect world. That is why we all have our dreams. While seeing all of our dreams fulfilled will never happen, it sure does feel good when one of them comes true.

This third and final installment of the summer ‘Farner Dreams’ series will continue to look at those major items that Bullitt County could use to be a better place in terms of sports and recreation.

  • The boys (and girls) of summer...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - The summer All-Star baseball and softball circuits will shift into high gear this week with a flurry of games in a number of age groups.

While the summer time is a slow sports time with the high school teams taking a break, the next two weeks are the busiest of the middle summer time for the Sports Editor. Bullitt County has three strong summer baseball/softball leagues with the Blue Lick Optimist League, the Mount Washington Baseball and Softball League and the Bullitt County Parks and Recreation Leagues.

  • Large local contingent headed to...

LOUISVILLE - A trio of Bullitt County players and one coach will take part in the East-West Junior All-Star basketball game on Saturday at Bellarime University.

The annual girls’ and boys’ contests pit the best players from the Fifth and Sixth Region against their counterparts from the Seventh and Eighth Regions. Each region has six representatives. All the players will be seniors in the upcoming season.
