SHEPHERDSVILLE - Following one of the worst weeks of baseball for Bullitt Central in a number of years, the Cougars bounced back last week to win two of three including a key district contest against Fairdale.

While the offense and defense have made the Cougars competitive this season, the starting pitching continues to struggle for coach Tommy Alvey’s squad.

HEBRON ESTATES - In a game with enough excitement for a whole week, the North Bullitt overcame an early 5-0 hole and rallied to beat Bullitt Central 6-5 in eight innings in the first district game in the 24th District this season.

The Lady Eagles, who were playing for the first time in almost two weeks, scored three times in the fifth inning and then tied the game with two runs in the seventh including the tying run on a controversial play that forced the extra innings.

FAIRDALE - In the final two innings, North Bullitt head coach Brian Wise had retreated to the dugout bench to holler instructions to his players. His nerves wouldn’t let him watch from the dugout’s edge.

The district opener Tuesday against host Fairdale had been a roller-coaster game...the type the veteran coach had grown accustomed to this season.

In the end, it was a time to celebrate for Wise’s young Eagles as North Bullitt pulled out a 7-6 10-inning victory over the Bulldogs.

BARDSTOWN - There will be no racing on Saturday May 1 as Bluegrass Speedway track promoters David and Anita Ferrell will take this weekend off to ready things for the first-ever visit by the World of Outlaws Late Model Series to Bluegrass Speedway on Saturday May 8 for the 8th Annual My Old Kentucky Home Shootout event.

  • Early offense more than enough...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - The first intra-county game on their new field will not be something Bullitt Central baseball fans will want to remember.

There was no joy for the Cougars on Thursday as they were down 10-0 before they ever came to the plate. By the time the game ended mercifully after five innings, Bullitt East had a dominating 17-1 victory.

Bullitt Central has not beaten Bullitt East since 2004.

SHEPHERDSVILLE - A rematch between Bullitt Central and Bullitt East was in the works Saturday afternoon before Mother Nature stepped in and halted play in the High Five Bullitt County Softball Bash.

The meeting would have come in the semi-finals of the championship bracket. Bullitt Central had won it’s own division with a 3-0 mark while the Lady Chargers had finished second with a 2-1 record in the opposite pool.

FORT WALTON - Each week, a coach is looking for signs of improvement with the final focus on post-season play.

While enjoying the sun of the beaches of Florida, North Bullitt head coach Brian Wise was also looking for some rays of sunshine in his young baseball team. At the conclusion of the 2-4 spring break trip, Wise felt a little better about his squad.

Now, it is time to return to the important district battles, where the Eagles opened on Tuesday against Fairdale.

MOUNT WASHINGTON - With a strong combination of a transfer student, some foreign exchange players and an already impressive core group of players, Bullitt East boys’ tennis coach Dustin Armstrong has high hopes for the 2010 season.
